The conveyor belt in lidi aldi is disgusting

I admit some of their food is good quality, but I'm always put off by the belt. It always has sugar, flour or washing powder on it.

Other supermarkets do seem to clean their belts often but the budget places it always seems to be filthy.

Aibu to think they should clean it more or install something underneath to clean it?

I may be a bit ocd, but it really puts me off as I buy lots of fruit and veg and don't want it touching washing powder or anything else dodgy like that.

A guy was recently killed by making a cup of coffee with washing powder, so it is very dangerous.

Why does she want attention? Where is she anyway?

Happfeet2911 · 02/09/2015 20:52

Aah, bless you, delicate little flower that you are. If you are so offended by a bit of washing powder or sugar on a conveyor belt how do you survive in this world? As for making coffee with washing powder, if you are that stupid you deserve all you get!

ceyes03 · 02/09/2015 21:27

Oh for god's sake, what a ridiculous thread. Wash your fruit and veg or go somewhere else. Stop whining.

Lweji · 02/09/2015 21:31

Maybe take some wipes next time?

Or put your fruit and veg in those little plastic bags that hang from those metal thingies?

Still... don't forget the wipes.

how can anyone be "a bit" OCD?

surely obsessive is pretty much absolute???

Tigger365 · 04/09/2015 10:01

I would describe myself as a bit OCD, I've got a diagnosis, but it's only in certain ways, hence the 'bit'

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/09/2015 10:04

The threads that people think are worthy of an AIBU Grin.

What with this and the squash issue. Wink

ohidoliketobe · 04/09/2015 10:04

What about the trolley / basket you put them in? Are you concerned about them as well?

Hellocampers · 04/09/2015 10:04

Hilarious op.

We switched from
ASDA to Aldi as the store was cleaner, fruit and vegs much better quality and far far cheaper.

FuckyNell · 04/09/2015 10:07

You're supposed to wash fruit and veg Shock

FuckyNell · 04/09/2015 10:08

I forgot the all important and sentence changing '?' Grin

I've only been to a Lidl which was my local one but it was completely skanky inside so walked back out again without even reaching the belt!
I couldn't comment on any others as I haven't been.
But Ive never noticed disgusting belts in other supermarkets. And I rarely wash my prepacked fruit and veg.

FuckOffJeffrey · 04/09/2015 10:10

YABU. Our Aldi is immaculate, Lidl is ok but not quite as clean as Aldi.

The Lidl where I used to stay was a bit grim so maybe it depends on where you live.

Tigger365 · 04/09/2015 10:12

I never washed prepacked stuff either cakeninja, until I found a slug in some supposedly prewashed spinach. That was from Aldi, do you think there's a link?
Hmm

AutumnAttic · 04/09/2015 10:13

I don't use the little plastic bags or wash my fruit and veg, even loose stuff. Whop it straight on the conveyor belt, grim or not. What's the worst that could happen?

Hellocampers · 04/09/2015 10:15

Are you the chairman or Tesco op? I know things are bad but really!

Pranmasghost · 04/09/2015 10:22

Our Lidl is spotless. We don't have an Aldi nearby but I expect it is the same.

Lj8893 · 04/09/2015 10:24

Our local lidl is always very clean, much more so than the larger, more expensive supermarket next door to it!

QforCucumber · 04/09/2015 10:27

The man who died had dementia and used washing powder instead of coffee in his mug, he made the same for his wife.

I've never noticed dirty conveyor belts to be fair, but then even the loose veg I buy I still put into the polythene bags which you use to weigh them up in.

WeAreEternal · 04/09/2015 10:33

You don't wash your fruit and veg? [Clutches pearls]

Personality I'd be more worried about who had been touching the fruit/veg or what could have been sprayed/wiped on it before I chose it than the cleanliness of the conveyor belt.

gamerwidow · 04/09/2015 10:38

Been a long time since my student days working at Lidl but when I worked there the whole store including the conveyor belts had to be cleaned thoroughly by the shop floor and till staff before the staff could go home at night. I can't imagine standards have slipped far from that since I left.
