That we can dislike people without being called jealous

I've noticed it on so many threads lately. Whether it's someone criticising someone in the public eye or whatever they invariably get accused of jealousy. I mean really, aren't there loads of other possible reasons for not liking someone. We don't have to like everyone do we, but I shouldn't imagine jealousy being the major reason for it. What would be the point, it's so futile isn't it.

Yes, I agree - you wouldn't be a cussed of jealousy if it were say: King Kong but if it's an attractive women you would.

Snowfilledsky · 02/09/2015 17:29

i only ever think about Prince George's terrible clothing if I see him on the TV/in the paper. it doesn't keep me awake at night or anything. Grin

but I cannot watch her "acting" without wanting to roar obscenities.

Do you not think that is just a little bit extreme? I agree, she's not a good actress, but getting that angry about it is a bit much imo. Just don't watch her movies Confused

Why shouldn't people feel strongly about things?

greenribbon · 02/09/2015 17:42

The thing is, if it was jealousy because it's someone younger, more beautiful, richer then surely that would mean we must all dislike a lot of people. There are loads of celebs out there, but we probably just dislike a handful. It cant be jealousy otherwise we wouldn't like any of them, and that is never the case. Someone just said they disliked Keira Knightley, and she stated her reasons for it, it would be absurd to say that's jealousy, when there will be loads of other equally beautiful actresses who she wouldn't dislike iyswim.

I am a bit confused about what I am allowed to feel now.

I thought that Sarah Harding's acting in Corrie was awful. If I was going to be jealous of an actress wouldn't it make sense to be jealous of a good one?

AuntyMag10 · 02/09/2015 17:48

It's normal to not like everyone, but when you slate someone for what they have/ can afford compared To yourself then I do think it's jealousy.

Snowfilledsky · 02/09/2015 17:51

I don't really look at slebs in terms of what they have or can afford. More what they do/how they behave.

RachelZoe · 02/09/2015 17:51

Why shouldn't people feel strongly about things?

People absolutely should feel strongly about things. I just think it's a little odd, if you don't like/care about something or someone, and have no personal problem with it at all apart from a general dislike, to want to "roar obscenities" at a movie when nobody is forcing you to watch it in the first place.

MermaidAve I know what you mean when you say you get accused of jealousy for daring to dislike Keira Knightley but can gush for hours about another female. I once said I didn't happen to like someone off Dancing on Ice, I mean it was just one person, but because she was young and considered beautiful < but I didn't think so> I was accused of being jealous by my son in law. It was ridiculous, there was so many on that show that, if I was a jealous person I could have been jealous of, and I used to comment on how attractive I thought they were etc, but because there was one person I said I didn't take to I was told I was jealous. It's so annoying isn't it.

Mermaid completely agree with your intense dislike of Keira Knightley and her wooden acting.

I am definitely not jealous of her or her looks. I just dislike that such a mediocre actress is given all the plum jobs.

Whereas I am also happy to rave about Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz or yes, Carey Mulligan. And I wonder why these very talented [and beautiful actresses] are not invited to play Lizzie in Pride and Prejudice or Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire etc, etc. Anyone really, rather than the blank behind the eyes and jaw jutting Keira Shitely.
