At work today a colleague started saying ugh, it smells, you have Carter, go to the toilet. Aibu to think this is rude and embarrassing for women?

Grin you should have gone with the he who smelt it dealt it response.

Where did this idea that women shouldn't fart originate from. I never once heard my mother fart. Ever. My friends mum farted once and I can still remember it to this day. It seemed monumental to hear a grown woman fart.

steff13 · 01/09/2015 18:25

you have Carter

What on earth does this mean?

And it's rude to point it out to anyone. We all do it sometime, the polite thing is to ignore.

My DH frequently comments on how my farts are better than his. I think he's a bit jealous. Depth, volume, tone, length etc! We call them fluffs though! I own my fluffs!

But I understand how, if you farted accidentally and were embarrassed then having attention drawn to it is further embarrassing.

NancyCaroline · 01/09/2015 18:37

Oh God. It's just a fart. Everyone does it. I really can't see what the big deal is...! Hmm

steff13 · 01/09/2015 18:40

Thanks, Egosumquisum, I'm American and I'm not always sure what is an autocorrect issue and what is a language barrier issue. :)

It took me forever to figure out "squash" is juice for you; here it's a vegetable. :)

It was disgusting though! You felt embarrassed but they weren't making it up. Where do you get the silly idea that it's more acceptable for men to do it. Confused

CaitSith · 01/09/2015 18:45

I never get away with letting little ones out anymore, 3yo DS has hearing like a bat and gleefully bellows "MUMMY! YOUR BUM'S TALKING!" Most embarrassing when you're queuing in the post office.

Rachel0Greep · 01/09/2015 18:58

It was a mistake? What were you trying to do?

Grin
coolaschmoola · 01/09/2015 19:02

It's only as rude as causing an offensive stench in a shared area. Poor colleagues were breathing in your butt gas!

Waterymargin · 01/09/2015 19:04

It wasn't on purpose!

These little minion things usually do my head in, but on this occasion I couldn't resist! Grin

Maybe you should have apologised?

Mistake or not, it must have been horrible enough for someone to have said it. maybe you should have apologized. And why do you think women should be exempt from being point out?

Wombatinabathhat · 01/09/2015 19:26

Grin @It was a mistake? What were you trying to do?

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 01/09/2015 19:31

I've never worked in a place where it was usual to accuse each other of farting Confused

helenahandbag · 01/09/2015 19:34

Be thankful you don't work in my office - my (female) boss has a 'better out than in' policy and asks us to pull her finger!

Cloppysow · 01/09/2015 19:41

Own your farts sister. Own them.

Pipbin · 01/09/2015 19:56

If I was of a suspicious mind I might think that you were trying to get ladies to talk about covert farting techniques.

3rdSymphony · 01/09/2015 19:57

Do you work with pre-schoolers or something??? I honestly can't imagine, in anywhere I've ever worked, conversations revolving around accusations of farting.

Also, I'm intrigued by the farting sexual double standards you are instigating. Are you saying that male colleagues should pretend responsibility for female workplace farts to save female face? Or that all women in your workplace should be permanently accompanied by a work experience schoolboy who automatically apologises for their emissions???

3rdSymphony · 01/09/2015 19:59

Helena, I'm a foreigner who isn't entirely au fait with the language of farting in this country. What do you mean when you say your boss asks you to pull her finger???
