H currently watching Impractical Jokers and absolutely howling.

I dont get it.

Its cringe making, I am embarrassed on behalf of everyone they involve in their "fun". I just dont get why programs like that are funny!

Am I missing something? I have a good sense of humour I think, I prefer to laugh than cry, but this sort of stuff just isnt funny. I didnt like that Dom Joly one either with the phone, even though I think he is funny and I like him.

I agree generally. There are occasional ones that are funny but it tends to be the situation rather than a person. There was a candied camera one I think where they set up a car backwards, so it looked like it was reversing all the way. The police were trying to work out what they could charge them with, which was quite funny. There wasn't actually anything, just the car looked like it was going backwards.

I also don't like sit coms that are laughing at someone rather than the situation.

I'm someone who doesn't find it funny when people fall over, used to hate Beadles about and don't like practical jokes, but the impractical jokers show is different.

They all seem like really nice guys, and they are embarrassing themselves, not playing jokes on other people. Obviously other people are involved, but only to the extent that people think the jokers are weird. This is by far the most harmless of these types of show. People aren't set up by friends or family, they don't get embarrassed and they only rarely get annoyed.

Yanbu "practical jokers" are tools.

to be fair I also don't like any element of "hidden camera". I think it's wrong that they are allowed to do that in the first place.

for me, if it's just laughing at someone else's misfortune or humiliation, it makes no sense. I remember seeing someone on a TV show saying "there's no point teaching kids not to bully each other when we constantly show them that it's considered acceptable among adults". I know exactly what she meant.

one of my friends was a big fan of Fonejacker so I watched one with her. Mouse phoning up pest control and saying "hi, I'm a mouse and I need to get rid of the humans round here" - fair enough, that's quite funny and doesn't harm anyone. But there was also ringing an office security desk at night and saying to the guard "I can see you" etc to freak him out. Not funny. is it just me?

Usually I do hate these programmes (I hate being laughed at and end up cringing for the victim) but there was one last year that had old people doing silly things that was actually hilarious. Can't remember for the life off what it was called.

YANBU I don't like those take the piss type shows either. So what I do like is watching a prank backfire.

Like this one:

I hate seeing people being pranked. I find it physically painful to watch. That sounds overly dramatic but I really do - it's a whole body painful squirm that makes my brain feel funny.

I can't even watch people in films being embarrassed even knowing its actors.

The impractical jokers are friends, they decided to make their own show to humiliate each other with consent. They actually look like they have a lot of fun doing it. DP and I love it.
