To let ourselves in?

We have a key to our elderly neighbours' house for emergencies.

DH bumped into Mr Neighbour this morning on his way back from the shop and was invited in for a cuppa.

When he left, he forgot that he'd had his jacket with him when he arrived (as he would usually pop next door without it, but this time he'd been to the shop first).

He's now realised he left the jacket there, with his wallet in the pocket.

From his conversation with them this morning, he knows they are away, staying with thier daughter until Friday. Would it be very wrong to let ourselves in and collect it? We don't have a mobile number or daughter's contact details (which we probably should get TBH)

Nah!! Go for it! Wink

I would, and just let them know when they get back, for politeness sake.

MrsTedCrilly · 31/08/2015 20:48

I would! Sounds like they trust you and are pally with them so they would want him to get it, no harm at all.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 31/08/2015 20:50

I would go and knock first then if they are definitely not in then you can go in

londonrach · 31/08/2015 20:52

I wpuld. Its an emergency, yours not theirs. Tell him when he returns im sure he would understand as he has given you the key so trusts you. The fact you asking if you should go in means id trust you.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 31/08/2015 21:41

Do it, but let them know as soon as is practical

BackforGood · 31/08/2015 21:48

Yes I would, but as an aside, I would also get the family's contact details in case there is an emergency (with him) in future. At that point, you would obviously want to contact them.

BoffinMum · 31/08/2015 21:54

I think that would be fine.

MisForMumNotMaid · 31/08/2015 21:58

I would knock to check empty and post a note through the door after collection to let them know you'd needed the wallet and hoped they didn't mind.
