Do check what you get as standard in the house. People look at show homes and make assumptions about fixtures and fittings based on that. You can add several thousand to the price to make the house functional. Carpets, flooring, lighting, doorbell, white goods etc, might all be extra. Charles Church/Persimmon provide a basic format I believe. We looked at a Barratt home a couple of weeks ago- looked lovely, but the price was not actually what it would cost to move in ifswim.
We live in a new build and have been here a year. The house came with white goods except a washing machine, spotlights in hall, kitchen and bathrooms, carpets in the living room, stairs, landing and bedrooms. There is Amtico flooring in the hall, kitchen/dining/living room.
We are just at the point of having the year later drying out cracks fixed and other bits and pieces.
I think there might be a fourteen day cooling off period for deposits, but I may be wrong!
Our builder and CC/Persimmon have adjoining sites. We have residents meetings with local councillors, residents and representatives from the building firms. CC did not attend the meeting we went to and we were told they hadn't been to any.
