To think Debra Meadon is a nasty piece of work?

She's one of the investors on Dragon's Den. She frequently comes across as hot tempered, mean and vindictive. I was watching a recent episode and cringed at the way she treated the couple seeking investment.

She got her businesses by her parents gifting their already successful campsite.

Not so. According to Wikipedia:

Meaden and a partner bought one of the first Stefanel textile franchises in the UK, and which was based in the West Country; she sold out two years later to her partner for £10,000. She then had several successful leisure and retail businesses including a spell operating a Prize Bingo at Butlins in Minehead.

In 1988, Meaden joined her family's business to run its amusement arcade operations and in 1992, joined Weststar Holidays, a family holiday park operator based in Exeter, Devon but with its major sites based in South West England. In 1999, she led a management buyout and acquired the majority shareholding. By the time she sold the company 6 years later, the Weststar was providing holidays for more than 150,000 people each year with an EBITDA in excess of £11m.

I thought she was reasonable. Her offer clearly wasn't good enough to, they wanted the other dragon as well, she jumped in way to quickly, either because she wanted the other dragon more than she did DM or because she thought there was an opportunity for creating a bidding war and getting to keep a bigger percentage. Think she was crying because she lost out and she knew it was knew it was her fault.

Jeronimoh - I thought TS was obnoxious but that is clearly his personality; I expected better from DM. Not because she's a woman but because she is intelligent and articulate and should be able to show some empathy.

Well, she did show some empathy by offering to invest. All went well until the contestant entrepreneur forgot her manners/common sense in her desire to get a better deal.

It was that daft act that reversed things. To insult a prospective investor by making it obvious you think they aren't up to it is a major error. Probably only beaten by the deluded individuals who think it is OK to ask a Dragon what experience they can bring to the table!
