DM - You cannot get PG while BF
DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 27/08/2015 09:21
I know its the DM, but really?
"It has also meant that Jessy will remain an only child with the couple, who had planned to begin further IVF when their son was six months old, told conception won't happen while Ms Krevantin is still breastfeeding"
But the extended breastfeeding has made conception impossible

A spokesperson from bpas told MailOnline: 'Women are coming to our clinics having become pregnant by mistake.
'Often, their GP has told them that breastfeeding is an effective form of contraception.
'It is an excellent for of contraception - if you do it exclusively. If you miss one feed, it is not reliable.
'Exclusive breastfeeding can provide highly effective contraceptive cover, but only if strict criteria are met.'

I thought this was an old wives tale and google says...
"Yes, women can get pregnant while they are breastfeeding because although they are less fertile during this time, they may not be infertile. You may not get your period for a few months after childbirth but your body will release an egg two weeks before you resume menstruating again."

It is effective. It is not an absolute.
I breastfed round the clock, no dummies, no formula, no more than a 2 hour break and I ovulated at 11 weeks.
With dc2, he fed much more infrequently, slept through from quite a young age and I didn't ovulate until he was 12 months old.
Saying it is 'impossible' is ridiculous. Women should be informed of the facts and encouraged to make their own decisions based on those facts and the possible peculiarities of their own bodies.

Daffyd may be correct it may be the IVF aspect but also every woman is different. Some women exclusively breastfeed and get their periods back at 6 weeks some women me being one didn't get my period back until breastfeeding had stopped and that was between 1 and 2 years old with three children. Obviously they were on solids and even drinks from a cup but they just didn't return.
It's not a reliable method of contraception obviously because your period comes after ovulation so you don't know you have ovulated but it can hinder conception.

she may be expressing enough as she also is making bm jewelry.. (personally.... ew, i wouldnt want to wear something like that even from my own body, but each to their own)
"But four years on, she's still breastfeeding and works from home selling breastmilk jewellery - all because of her son's attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]."

Baby is 7 months now and weaning has commenced full throttle (waited until 6 months and it's taken a few weeks for baby to have any interest in food) she is still feeding as much as usual though.
I've done the odd OPK as I've been feeling a bit "ovvy" but no lines. I guess this doesn't rule out getting pregnant though? not that we have much sex at all
