To think lidl should have express lanes

Especially for places that get busy with people on lunch breaks buying their lunch.

The point of Lidl is keeping things simple, so I don't think they'd go for adding things on to the way it's done now. It's pretty quick if people pack properly (put into bags after paying, on the counters provided). I've been shopping at Lidl since I was a bairn, and it's still the same now, I guess the formula works.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/08/2015 13:01

They do though, at least in some stores.

Goshthatsspicy · 26/08/2015 13:02

No, it will probably drive costs up and by using them, l've just managed to shave about 40/50 quid from my weekly shopping bill! Grin

Pipbin · 26/08/2015 13:03

I understood that the point of Lidl is that the overheads are kept to a minimum. To have an express lane they would need to open another lane and employ another person to man the till.
Part of the deal with Lidl is that you are going to have to put up with a wait.

Perfectlypurple · 26/08/2015 13:04

Every lane is an express lane in lidl they scan it through so quickly!

Goshthatsspicy · 26/08/2015 13:07

It is very snazzy in our local one. Numbered lights, with an 'airport' style voice over!

Gruntfuttock · 26/08/2015 13:10

"Every lane is an express lane in lidl they scan it through so quickly!"

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the title Perfectlypurple The same goes for Aldi.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 26/08/2015 13:10

All lanes are supposed to be express lanes. It only gets held up when someone not familiar with lidl etiquette tries to act like they are in Sainsburys.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/08/2015 13:12

My local lidl couldn't be slower. and only one check out ever seems to be in use

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/08/2015 13:23

So in your lidls you donmt have basket lanes?

FarFromAnyRoad · 26/08/2015 13:28

Our Lidl has 8 lanes. Never seen more than 4 open at once but they move quickly enough until you get some noob mithering on about 3p for a carrier bag or counting out their £37.26 in loose change from a plastic bag they keep in their pocket.

You seem to have a bit of a thing going about lanes and speed today OP. Something on your mind?

ilovesooty · 26/08/2015 16:45

I can't imagine why anyone would go to Lidl to buy one thing for lunch.

notquitehuman · 26/08/2015 16:52

My Lidl has self checkouts for cards only. I've never seen anyone use them though, as it's tucked away on an industrial estate. Might be a few office workers nipping in at lunchtime I guess.

lljkk · 26/08/2015 17:06

About half of the shoppers in our Lidl use Lidl like a corner shop, only a few items. Would be 50% express lanes.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 26/08/2015 17:11

They have a huge sign visible to operators - once the queue is at this point, ring to open a new till. I like the way they open and close tills according to demand - it is never a long wait.

Jux · 26/08/2015 17:14

I don't think they should. They sell stuff really cheaply becuse they save on all those little extra comveniences. If you want an express lane etc, shop elsewhere. Some of us are bloody grateful to Lidl for helping keep our food bills down.

InkyPinkyPonkyPoo · 26/08/2015 17:15

Ours has recently (in the last six months) had a self service checkout area put in, it makes just 'nipping in' for milk so much quicker! And it also takes credit cards which is handy Smile

ilovesooty · 26/08/2015 17:18

That's interesting. Our local stores only have the conventional check outs.

InkyPinkyPonkyPoo · 26/08/2015 17:28

We have two Lidl stores locally and only one, which happens to be the one closest to me, has had them put it. I get so cross when I go into the other store and get stuck behind someone with a huge trolley full when I only have a basket!

appleusedtobepear · 26/08/2015 17:31

Since my local Lidl opened their bakery the number of shoppers there has increased hugely. I used to be able to go in for just milk, say, stand in the only queue behind someone with one of the large trolleys overflowing, they'd take once look at my bottle of milk and tell me to go in front. It doesn't happen very often any more. It's normal supermarket checkout rules now - first come, first served. Oh, and then they insist on packing at the checkout, complaining that there isn't much room for their mounting up groceries.

I wish we had the self-service checkouts.
