They aren't really very interesting, are they?

AIBU to think I might prefer teens?

Babies are pretty boring yes, much more interesting when they start doing things & developing a personality.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 25/08/2015 17:13

They are boring. Much more interesting after age 1 IMHO!

Catsize · 25/08/2015 17:15

Mine is cooking dinner whilst reciting some Japanese verse.

BrianButterfield · 25/08/2015 17:17

Babies get way more fun when they start talking, even a little bit.

comfybigduvet · 25/08/2015 17:18

Toddlers are worse than babies.

At least babies can't move when you put them down

Grin catsize

Mine is falling behind already.

Depends how much time you have to spend with them. Having a few hours with 6-month-old every now and then is fascinating, watching her 200 facial expressions per minute and how she's discovering and learning. Full time would be boring as hell.

comfybigduvet · 25/08/2015 17:43

Mines only 1 month. Sleeps. Feeds. Poos. Wees. That's it. I think she should be learning French at least.

We used to have great fun polishing the floor w ds1 - he was quite small so fitted under the low bookcases.

You will not prefer teenagers when they're yours.

comfybigduvet · 25/08/2015 18:09

Oh I don't know. It wouldn't be boring, I'm sure!

ArendelleQueen · 25/08/2015 19:02

I was surprised when I had my first at how utterly dull I found her. Blush

Jurysout2 · 25/08/2015 19:04

Oh yes OP! they'll be far far MORE interesting when teenagers….
Smile

Bulbasaur · 25/08/2015 19:05

Yeah, they're pretty boring. I just swaddled mine in a blanket and watched movies, played video games, fooled around on the internet. Now she's 17 months and much more fun. Has a personality, unique way of learning, food preferences, clothes preferences, favorite toys, animals, etc...

TheEagle · 25/08/2015 19:07

They don't do very much in the beginning but it's very cute when they start to notice the world.

My 4mo twins have just started babbling to each other and making each other laugh which is beyond adorable.

When they watch their 22mo whirlwind of a brother throwing himself around the place it's very nice as well.

God only knows what'll happen when they're all moving in different directions at once Shock

Jurysout2 · 25/08/2015 19:11

Eagle - God only knows what'll happen when they're all moving in different directions at once shock

That's when you start a different kind of thread Smile

TheLightsWinning · 25/08/2015 19:12

I hear they cry lots too?

First child due soon... Grin

redskybynight · 25/08/2015 19:14

Yep - they sleep, eat, cry, wee and poo. That's it basically.

Really don't get why folks go so gaga over babies. I hated the baby years and much prefer the DC now (granted not quite teenagers, but getting there).

Jurysout2 · 25/08/2015 19:15

On the serious side, i was talking/communicating with mine right from the start, infact i remember being surprised when at about 3months a relative commented, 'oh its so nice when they start to communicate'. i used to tell them everything i was doing during the day, and they would follow me with their eyes, and mouth sounds/or make loud noises. I never found them boring. Now they answer back at everything.

nottheOP · 25/08/2015 19:15

Your 1 month old sleeps? I call it.. troll!!

CerseiLannistersEyebrow · 25/08/2015 19:15

My nearly 6 month is interesting, has things he likes, laughs a lot and is silly. But he's also frustrated constantly at his physical limitations so whiny as fuck too.

EmmaWoodlouse · 25/08/2015 19:17

I loved my children when they were newborn babies - they were cute and cuddly, at least when they weren't screaming the place down - but I think I have got to like them more and more as they've got older, and the one who is now an adult is at my favourite stage yet. They are definitely more interesting when they can talk, and most interesting of all when they have opinions of their own and different experiences from you.

notquitehuman · 25/08/2015 19:18

They can be boring, although I sort of miss mine being a baby. At least you can shove them in a pram and go for a walk, take them to coffee shops without them causing chaos, and accidentally let out swear words without them copying. Oh god toddlers are hard.

Goshthatsspicy · 25/08/2015 19:18

I had no idea- till l had my first teen, just how much fun they are!
My eldest is 17 this year, l'm enjoying his company more and more.

Jurysout2 · 25/08/2015 19:23

I agree it is very nice 'hearing' your child's voice as they grow older and having private conversations with them. Every stage has its beauty.

TheImminentGin · 25/08/2015 19:27

I find children most interesting between birth and 3.
Babies are learning and changing all the time. They are soaking up the world like sponges.
Looking into your eyes like they can see your soul. Feeding like tiny vampires. Going purple when pooing or farting prodigiously. Growing eyebrows and eye lashes.
Suddenly smiling at you.
Developing muscle control from the head downwards so that lifting and turning the head comes first, then one arm starts thrashing things, or scratching your boob. Then being able to lift up their torso whilst on their tummies.
Oh, I love all that stuff.
Ooh when they are nearly rolling.

featherandblack · 25/08/2015 19:29

They don't do much, no. With the first one, that was a disappointment. This time around it's perfect.
