To think we should be able to put children into a kennel/cattery like set up and go on holiday without them?

Because the cats have just been to a cattery for 2 weeks and have come back really affectionate and grateful to be home. Just wondering if the cattery would have the same affect on dcGrin

only if I could put mother in. not showing gratitude for the bloody hard work for me holiday I took her on.

MrsAukerman · 23/08/2015 13:35

My parents used to book me onto residential courses while they went away. A week learning to ride or sail with my best friend was great but I was definitely happy to go home to familiar cooking and mummy cuddles at the end. Min age was 10 from memory.

Florriesma · 23/08/2015 14:06

Ungrateful mothers should be allowed in too. blackeyedsusan

Where was this mrsAuckerman? Because the amount to ungrateful moans we had whilst on holiday would make me sorely tempted next year.

There is. It's called camp Beaumont. Excellent fun for the children especially teenagers.

BeautifulBatman · 23/08/2015 14:13

It's called 'grandparents house' isn't it?

Florriesma · 23/08/2015 14:18

Mine would come back from gps feeling like they had left 5 star accommodation with attendant slave. Dm has irish mother syndrome when it comes to boys and I have 3 ds. She actually tried to stop me making ds1 (11) collect some cutlery when in a cafe.

PGL I went every year from 12-17 and loved it

IndomitabIe · 23/08/2015 14:28

Yeah, PGL. Did wonders for my confidence.

IndomitabIe · 23/08/2015 14:30

PGL take them from age 7, apparently

ExBallerina · 23/08/2015 14:34

Sign me up.

I'll put DM in there too. Her Italian Mother Syndrome needs treating professionally.

MrsAukerman · 23/08/2015 14:35

Island cruising club at Salcombe for sailing
Somewhere in N Wales for the riding.

exexpat · 23/08/2015 14:37

Another vote for PGL or similar. DD went by herself for a week when she was 10 and loved it - made new friends she's still in touch with two years later.

I am still friends with someone I met 22 years ago.

goblinhat · 23/08/2015 14:41

You could put them into care for a fortnight.
Contact social services.

Or just drive and leave them in a random spot.

Florriesma · 23/08/2015 14:44

I might have to look up pgl properly for next year. They would possibly love it. Not sure about ds3 yet. Although ds2 would happily stay with the cats in the cattery.

Great idea! We could get the whinging teens to look after the little ones.

To be honest if you put my teens in a big enough cage for a fortnight, as long as said cage had Wifi and food, they'd be happy.

BackforGood · 23/08/2015 14:54

There is. We call it Scout camp probably a lot cheaper than a cattery too Grin

PuntasticUsername · 23/08/2015 14:56
Florriesma · 23/08/2015 15:01

Scout camp insist on having phone numbers and ringing you when the little blighter has got himself soaked, covered in mud and completely neglected to make any use of waterproofs. Then whines. A lot. Still we'll persist with that next year.

Itallinn and irish mother syndrome probably needs a different camp. One with full on feminist indoctrination and brain washing.the husbands probably need to go too. They could have indoctrination in how to use the microwave.

PGL looks great fun. We walked past one on a long walk during the holidays and all the DC said it looked like fun and that they'd all love to go.

Hygellig · 23/08/2015 16:26

I think my DH would quite like that idea!
I first went on a PGL holiday by myself aged seven. Apparently my mum didn't think that I was old enough, but I read the brochure and assured her that I was.

FruSirkaOla · 23/08/2015 16:46

IIRC, a few years ago I watched a TV documentary about parents going on holiday and they left their DC in residential care at the Norland Nanny College. I'm not imagining this, because I vaguely knew the mother.

Andrewofgg · 23/08/2015 16:50

How about setting up a business where they are sent out to sweep chimneys for the duration?

I suppose the problem is central heating buggering the market. Damn the Clean Air Act.

Florriesma · 23/08/2015 17:02

Like the idea Andrewofgg this would mean they come back grateful and sleepy. Much like the cats. Sure there's a modern day equivalent for it, and the bonus is that they become profitable too!

Florriesma · 23/08/2015 17:07

Mind you, that idea would also need someone to make them actually work. Hmm there's a draw back. Takes long enough to get them to tidy their bedroom.
