to ask for help in finding holiday accommodation in London?

Trying to book something for half term holidays. Possibly 4/5 nights. 2 adults, 4 children (eldest child is 14 but I don't mind saying 12 if it cuts the cost)

I would like something fairly central, but not essential. I cannot find anything less than £900 (which I can't justify for 4 nights) We are not looking for anything fancy, just a clean base to stay. Don't mind being in the same room.

Is anyone familiar with any hidden gems that do not cost the earth? I have tried hostels and they are the same price as budget hotels (which are too expensive for what they are)

Many thanks!

Have you tried the travel lodge at Covent Garden? It's usually £100 a night, and sleeps four in a room. Very central.

Air b&b has several " whole home" rentals under £100/ night including one at £35. No sure if that's a typo but it had 4 good reviews. I'd use that.

Thanks agent but the problem with the budget hotels is that they often have strange age restrictions which means that children over 12 are classed as adults and there is a limit to 1 adult and 2 children per room, meaning not only do we need 2 rooms, but my husband and i have to sleep separately (which isn't that big a deal, but would rather not)

I suppose ideally I would like a large room that could sleep 6.

I also came on to suggest Travelodge Covent Garden.

Travelodge website states that up to 2 kids under 16 can share a room

Might be worth ringing them to have a chat about your requirements if you struggle to find anywhere else. I've stayed there a couple of times with DD and cannot fault the place - always clean, reasonably quite and incredibly helpful staff.

Definitely Air BnB.

Madmum24 · 22/08/2015 10:55

As it happens Travelodge do not have availability anyway.

Checked Air bnb out, that seems to be the way forward.

Thanks a lot.

Try Peckham Lodge - I have had look at rooms for relatives when we're out of room at our house. It's fine, there's a bus from outside hat takes 20mins into town or a train too. Last time I checked it was £80ish a room, so maybe two rooms?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 22/08/2015 19:57

I was going to say try the 'room for five' site but I checked and it's closed down! Shame.

Have you considered a youth hostel? St Paul's, St Pancras, others I can't name off the top of my head. Pretty sure they do family rooms.

pineapplecrush · 22/08/2015 20:59

I looked at Booking.com and typed in 3 star hotels and it came up with a few, one I noticed was the Essington House in Wandsworth, you would have to book 1 x double and 1 family room, came in at under £500 and looks really nice. Others were more central. You can reserve and no payment until you stay there at half term with Booking.com. If you trawl through there were others. Hope this helps.

Madmum24 · 24/08/2015 06:50

Thanks for the help everyone.

I've found something on Air bnb that is £99 per night and is in the area that I want. All I need now is good half term weather!
