AIBU to bypass threads where the opening post is really long

...or is it just a sign of a piss poor attention span?

OP posts:
Caitmous · 19/08/2015 19:13

I do this.

pretend · 19/08/2015 19:14

Nope.

You can bypass anything you like. I bypass really long, emotional threads where the OP is in anguish. I just don't have the energy.

You can be as altruistic/selfish/lazy/involved as you like on the web.

ToadsforJustice · 19/08/2015 19:14

I do the same. I don't read comments without paragraphs either.

JuneIsBustingOutAllOver · 19/08/2015 19:14

I do this as well. I thought it was only me and that I had a short attention span!

ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:17

Phew. Thing is, the title could be as enticing as chocolate cake; the moment I open it up and notice that the OP is longer than 5/6 lines I sigh and shut it down Blush

I can only cope with long posts if I'm in the mood and they contain paragraphs.

whatsonyourplate · 19/08/2015 19:21

I do, if it's more than 3/4 of a page on my tablet I just close the thread again.

YouSmellLikeDogBuns · 19/08/2015 19:23

I do this, awful but true.

ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:23

I'm with you toads I just can't stomach hefty walls of text and no punctuation

OP posts:
TPel · 19/08/2015 19:27

Me too. I do sometimes feel a tad guilty, but it passes and sometimes more quickly than it should !

ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:28

(She says missing the capital letter for a user name and a comma in her last post Blush )

OP posts:
ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:30

...she says missing the capital off the user name and a comma in her last post. I'm not sure that the Pedants would even have me Blush

OP posts:
ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:30

And double posting. Geez.

OP posts:
ByeFelicia · 19/08/2015 19:31

Thanks all. I don't feel so bad anymore.

magimedi · 19/08/2015 19:38

I also bypass them, if long & no paragraphs. I can't find the energy to engage.

But I wouldn't post & say so.

Paragraphs (+ double spacing) make posts so much easier to read.

Katedotness1963 · 19/08/2015 20:24

Too long and no paragraphs and I just can't read it properly. I lose my place, backtrack, try to figure out where I went wrong... Now I just close it up again.

AuntyMag10 · 19/08/2015 21:30

No paragraphs and no full stops and I close the thread.

MotherOfFlagons · 19/08/2015 21:33

I will read it if it has paragraphs, a semblance of punctuation, no text speak and doesn't use 'lol' to end sentences.

ThereIsIron · 19/08/2015 21:48

tl;dr Grin

ScarlettDarling · 19/08/2015 21:55

I actually really enjoy a good, long post!
Like pictures too!

Boxoffrogs123 · 19/08/2015 22:09

I'm the same, sad but true Blush

Dogsmom · 19/08/2015 22:13

Yup me too, I appreciate the posters who warn it's long in their thread title so I don't have to even bother opening it.

sherazade · 19/08/2015 22:19

Yanbu. Life is too short.

MotherOfFlagons · 19/08/2015 22:23

I don't actually mind if it's long, as long as it keeps to the general point and doesn't spend several paras banging on about some random thing their friend's cousin's SIL said which they think might be vaguely relevant.

You have a reason for posting this story, don't pad it out with pointless shit about who put the bins out on Thursday, whether she made you a cup of tea or what his female best mate's hairstyle is like.

scarlets · 19/08/2015 22:28

If they're punctuated properly they're okay. I find the acronyms difficult sometimes XHDS2 DDSS and wotnot - when there is a cast of thousands, all with acronyms, I lose interest.
