People thinking cup a soup are "guilt free" and "great for being 1% fat" are being conned

A trend in the office is to have this cup a soup pasta as they are "guilt free" and "1% fat" so therefore healthy...Hmm

A quick look at the ingredients show the top 3 are wheat and two types of sugar.

Therefore might as well have haribo on a single slice of toast. Why do people still fall for this?! Should be illegal to say guilt free on anything other than fruit or veg IMO.

My porridge oats don't say guilt free on them. Neither does my peanut butter or chicken. Should I feel guilty? Why should anyone ever feel guilty for eating? Unless they've stolen it I suppose.

LazyLohan · 19/08/2015 13:07

And why is wheat automatically bad?

cardibach · 19/08/2015 13:07

Why are you surprised that the top ingredient of pasta is wheat? Confused
Wheat does not =unhealthy unless you are allergic to it. Most aren't. Low fat things often have proportionally more sugar - you have to replace the fat with something!
YANBU to think cup a soup pasta is unhealthy. YABU to think it for the reasons in your OP.

Theycallmemellowjello · 19/08/2015 13:09

Not convinced that anyone needs to feel guilty about eating something with wheat or sugar in it. Everything in moderation. Your colleagues are hardly having a dozen jam donuts a day. Let them get on with it.

ghostyslovesheep · 19/08/2015 13:12

No food should be associated with guilt!
Wheat is fine - unless you are allergic
Lots of things have hidden sugar - hard to avoid
Probably on the whole a better option than 'haribo on toast ' Yabu

wigglesrock · 19/08/2015 13:14

Oh for the love of Christ, I have heard some sanctimonious twaddle on MN but this really does take the guilt free biscuit. It's up to grown ups what they eat - tell you what my dentist wouldn't be too happy with fruit being labelled guilt free.

LauraGrooves · 19/08/2015 13:17

It's refined bleached wheat. I'm just saying the top three ingredients are all highly refined and lead to a blood sugar spike. So calling it guilt free and thinking it's healthy for being 1% fat is very misleading.

OP posts:
UrethraFranklin1 · 19/08/2015 13:18

It's not misleading, "guilt free" is a stupid meaningless concept, if it is 1% fat then it is and whatever anyone chooses to infer from that is there own affair.
And you're just as bad with your OMG, WHEAT, EVIL WHEAT spiel.

IT's just fucking food. Eat what you want and stop talking shite about it!

lastqueenofscotland · 19/08/2015 13:23

YABU for associating guilt with eating end of.

LauraGrooves · 19/08/2015 13:25

Just to make it clear its the manufacturer that is putting "guilt free and delicious" on it. I'm saying guilt free or not should not be on there.

I'm not calling wheat evil, I'm saying its highly refined wheat void of anything apart from empty calories.

OP posts:
VirginiaTonic · 19/08/2015 13:36

Well I don't buy into this new fad that sugar is the root of all evil either. Sugar in reasonable amounts is fine by by logic, it is naturally occurring in all sorts of things that are good for you. Everything in moderation and as unprocessed as possible. Therefore YANBU to think people who drink cup-a-soups are loons if they think it will do them good, and they are disgusting anyway.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2015 13:56

So look after your own diet and leave other adults to look after theirs.

badtime · 19/08/2015 14:01

Not ....WHEAT!! Aaaaargh!
And sugar!

I'm surprised they sell it to under 18s.

The thing about empty calories is that if there aren't too many of them, most people would consider that 'guilt free'.

I don't feel guilty about eating anyway, so it would be 'guilt free for me'.
