To feed my baby weetabix

posting for traffic as im nipping out to the shop in a mo!

Daughter is 8 months old and on 3 meals a day.

At the moment she is having baby porridge (the ones you make with water) every morning.

I eat Weetabix mushed up like porridge with whole milk. Baby porridge has run out so I was going to get more with the shop today

But is there any reason why she cant have weetabix and whole milk like I do from now on?

Yes, Weetabix is totally fine!

ThisIsntFunnyDean · 19/08/2015 11:41

No reason as at all as long as you know that she's ok with the ingredients. no allergies etc.

Oh and that it's likely you'll be finding it in her hair for a long time afterward!

ChristmasZombie · 19/08/2015 11:43

Nothing wrong with Weetabix! I used to give it to my DD1 when she was a bit constipated as a baby. Works a treat!

ANiceSliceOfCake · 19/08/2015 11:44

I've heard mum friends say the only thing is it sticks like concrete to anything, so wipe up straight away!

gabsdot45 · 19/08/2015 11:44

My son had weetabix when he was about that age. I think I made it with formula though. He loved it an would regularly eat 2 biscuits. It's a pain to clean off the highchair though. It sticks like cement.

dementedpixie · 19/08/2015 11:48

weetabix and readybrek are both good options and cheaper than baby cereals

WhatsTheT · 19/08/2015 11:48

Yep she eats the baby rice crackers at the min which are worse than concrete haha. So I'm use to cleaning/scraping it up

I dont really want to prepare it with formula. I give her her brekkie while the formula is cooling in the morning so I'd rather use cows milk. (as far as im aware its ok with meals after 6 months)

It's fine. I never bothered with formula on cereal after 6 months.

dd1 had cows milk on her cereal and dd2 had oatly.

go ahead.

WhatsTheT · 19/08/2015 11:53

Thanks ladies :) off to the shops I go !

Formula is recommended up to 1 year but I don't think it's crucial. You could try adding some baby vitamins - I used to use these orange-flavoured drops, can't remember the name but the packaging was orange too. Dead easy, you just added a few drops to the cereal, child never even noticed I don't think.

RaisinGirls · 19/08/2015 12:04

weetabix is good - but as others have said a real pain to clean up.

You could try making porridge yourself - real quick when making a baby size portion - make it with cow or goat milk and then when it goes in the bowl add in a dollop of full fat yogurt to make it extra creamy and also to help ensure its cooled down properly.

Littlef00t · 19/08/2015 12:49

I give dd mini shredded wheat as she's BLW and likes to use her fingers when she can. I wait until the milk is soaked up and they've gone slightly soggy. No added sugar or salt whereas I think weetabix has some salt added?? (Might be wrong on that one)

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 19/08/2015 12:55

My DS has it daily at nursery. At home he usually has Cheerios Blush

dexter73 · 19/08/2015 12:57

Weetabix has salt and sugar added to it.

PennyHasNoSurname · 19/08/2015 12:59

its fine. Mine both had sachets of Oats So Simple for bfast too, made with cows milk and microwaved for 30secs.

BitchBags · 19/08/2015 13:02

Weetabix is fine. From 6 months they can eat almost any food (bar a few such as honey) and can have cows milk in food and on cereal. They still need formula to drink up until the age of 1

dementedpixie · 19/08/2015 13:07

Weetabix has a little salt and sugar added but it is a very very small amount.

EponasWildDaughter · 19/08/2015 13:09

Wish mine (18 months) would eat Wtbx. sigh.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/08/2015 13:22

I used to give my DC Weetabix made with either formula or breast milk, and some added pureed fruit, such as apple, pear or banana.

The salt and sugar content in Weetabix is negligible, all things considered.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 19/08/2015 13:38

My 21 month old has been eating weetabix since about 8 months. Good for bowel movements!

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 19/08/2015 13:55

My dd had it from 6 months with moo juice with no problems. Except she now has a raging cereal habit...Wink

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 19/08/2015 13:57

Weetabix and readybrek are great for babies.
