To be unused to a day at home during the holidays

Is anyone else like me? During the school holidays we (my son and I) have been camping, to various local park(we don't have a back garden) visiting friends, on free council activities, to museums, films, swimming, soft play ..................
When I stopped and thought about it we have been on the go (not frantically) but routinely pretty much all holidays. Today I had a short errand to do and then returned home. The plan, which is generally pretty flexible was to go to a museum later in the day. My son settled down and has been entertaining himself quietly since we came home. I said to him what would you like to do? and he replied stay at home and play. I feel relief but at the same time at the back of my mind, think we should be out enjoying the sun etc etc. Am I alone in setting up these annoying expectations in my mind? Our holiday up to this point has been hugely enjoyable. I am not of the view that what I am doing is right or wrong I just wonder what other people do in their holidays particularly those with an only child.

SingingSamosa thanks. Perhaps I have painted a picture of frantic micro-management but really that is far from the reality. When we go to the park my son is off playing for several hours with friends and I am reading a book whilst keeping an eye on him or talking to friends. When we went camping we went with a couple of other families and the children were left to their own devices (within reason). The same applies all the other places we go to, When we go to the museum we look at the options and visit exhibitions etc that are of interest to him and which are unlikely to be too busy. If I had a back garden it would be easier to stay at home but the park is bit of an extension of a back garden.

We don't really do days at home but that's because I can't cope with them, it's not for the kids! I have a worrying need to be busy every minute so I find holidays really hard if I stay in the house.

We don't always do stuff together though, the older children have gone off and done other stuff while I've gone into work etc.

I am also at home with DD and DS thinking we should really go out now the sun is here, except they want to stay at home and so do I really. We had a busy few days camping with friends so I figure we need some downtime doing the things we like at home.

fwiw I didnt think your post sounded stealth boasty. Not sure what you would be boasting about tbh?

We go out every day, but sometimes it's just to the park for an hour or a short round the block walk with the dog.

We do a lot of free activities.... cycling, picnics, going to the lake, and a small amount of paid for activities, so far it's been swimming, aquarium, and light steam railway.

We've been camping for 10 days just an hour up the road, and will be going camping again in a weeks time, again to another close site.

Yesterday was the 1st time we've been in to town to do chores/shoing but then, I hate going in to town on school days too!

My DS is back at school now, but although we were really busy and had two great trips away, with loads of freinds over etc, one of our favourite days was the very last day, when it rained all day, and we just chatted and played board games. I wish we'd had more of those, he loves that kind of thing. I think I'll probably not cram so much in next year.

Actually we did loads the first week and my DS said it felt rushed..I have to agree with him..It is stopping to enjoy it..

I think it is that balance..We do a couple of days out but most days it is play in back garden or park...
