To not "get" photo booths at weddings!

Am I the only one who hates them? I don't enjoy having my photo taken under normal circumstances. To have to put a skanky wig or hat on that loads of other people have worn doesn't make it any more tempting.

Ps. Tongue in cheek thread. I know most people seem to love them.

I don't mind them, they're good at getting people to loosen up. Easily avoidable if they don't appeal.

Better than those sweet trollies that seem to be A Thing these days too.

My sister has a sweet trolley and a photo booth planned for hers Grin I guess the kids and me after a fews drinks will have fun with them !

I'm not a fan but recently a wedding I went to had a flick book making set up where you dance in front of the camera for a few seconds and it gets turned into a flick book you can take away.

That really was fun.

You do if you go to my SIL's wedding! I got told off for saying no.

Ashtray heart don't worry, the thing was packed all night, especially as people got drinker.

Nooooo they are fun!

The lighting in then is mint and you all look lovely. Fun to have a few photos taken with friends or DP goofing around.

Not been to a photo booth one but went to one with a real Instamatic camera. When photos were developed, they were put in an album and you could add a message. Very OTT wedding but that bit was quite fun.

Sweets are definitely a thing. I have played at loads of weddings this summer and most of them have a sweetie table.

For introverts, weddings were always pretty horrific for introverts. Then some bastard invented the hen do that lasts a week, horrific activities at weddings and photo booths.Grin
And don't get me started on extrovert photographers who want the guests to pose scratching their bums or throwing food. Utter Bastards.

maybe I'm a grumpy bum but I can't bear forced fun or someone trying to force you to laugh. My SOH just isn't the "silly hat and fake moustache" variety

Yes, the OTT wedding had the sweets thing as well. For introverts, the photos thing was useful for getting away from making small talk to strangers.

I don't get them either - I've lived abroad for 12 years and have only seen the phenomena via Facebook, but it doesn't appeal at all - why on earth would you??

They seem to have become very much the norm, much like candy buffets. DP and I are planning our wedding, I'd much rather spend the money on providing a better meal, or more wine. I mean, wouldn't you prefer more wine with your meal, rather than the opportunity to pose in a photo booth with a moustache on a stick?

DP gigs with a band that do a lot of weddings. They hate photo booths. They're trying to get the crowd going and out on the dancefloor, half the guests are crowded around the photo booth, and bride and groom are freaking out because they are having their 'first dance' and most of the guests are hanging around the photo booth to get their picture taken with as many people as they can cram in, with novelty oversized glasses and fake
fake moustaches.

It just screams look how quirky we are!!

Oh. I've booked one for a party next month. Thought it would be a good way to keep the kids entertained... and drunk guests later in the evening.

I think it's different for a party, GinBunny. At a party I'd have no objection to one. Which is weird really, as a wedding, once the ceremony bit is over, is just a big party. I can't claim to be logical in my thinking!

We didn't have a photo booth, we did have silly glasses as a prize, but that was for the table that won round one of the wedding pub quiz. We didn't want people to be bored while the BBQ got started up so with nibbles and drinks we had a pub quiz! It went down a treat! We were going to have a sweet trolley, but I knew we'd end up with a gazillion sweets left over or super hyper kids so we just had home made chocolate truffles on the tables instead!
