Wearing a cardigan in Florida

I have horrible fat, flabby, mottled out of proportion, stretch marked arms. I hate them. I am going to Florida in 2 weeks and will be miserable if I can't cover my arms. Aibu to wear a cotton cardigan, rolled up at the sleeves? Or can anyone suggest anything lightweight to cover my arms?

Glittery, depends what time of year you go. As others have said, it can be bloody freezing after dark. I remember lasting about 5 minutes at Epcot when we went to watch the fireworks as it was bitterly cold and we had to go home for a cup of tea and soak in a hot bath!

(was Christmas week)

I live in Florida. When I want to cover my arms, I wear loosely fitting 3/4 sleeve cotton tops or shirts, often over a tank top. Closely fitting cardigans would be uncomfortably hot for me in the summer.

SenecaFalls · 11/08/2015 21:37

Elbow sleeve tops are a good choice, too, but harder to find.

Lots of floaty kimonos about as very trendy. If multi coloured will match any top and light to go in a bag.

cashewnutty · 11/08/2015 21:44

Once you are there and see the range of shapes and sizes wandering around you will no longer give a shit about your arms. I would bet on you being slimmer than the average person in Florida.

TheSnowFairy · 11/08/2015 21:46

Look on ebay and type in 3/4 length sleeves?

FlowersAndShit · 11/08/2015 22:04

Thanks everyone! I'll buy a few of those kimono's and hopefully I won't get too hot during the day. Apparently it's 30-35 degrees there now!

Its the humidity that gets you its urgh, i love florida enjoy your holiday

ephemeralfairy · 12/08/2015 12:43

Yes to kimonos rather than cardi! When I'm in hot countries I carry a light floaty cotton scarf in my bag too, good for chucking over shoulders to protect from sun or over-zealous air-con and good for putting on hot plastic seats to protect thighs!

nikki1978 · 12/08/2015 12:47

Honestly don't worry. I am a good size 18 and felt very slim there in May Grin

People who were huge and covered in cellulite were wearing crop tops and hot pants and noone took a second look at them.

It is pretty hot out there and I never needed a cardy except in air conditioned restaurants. Don't give yourself heat stroke worrying about something noone else will notice.

nikki1978 · 12/08/2015 12:48

Even in a kimono you will overheat during the day. It was 35 when I was there and the humidity is high. You will sweat to death.

Groovee · 12/08/2015 12:48

You'll need one for indoors In the air con.

Shodan · 12/08/2015 12:59

I just got back from Florida yesterday.

It's very hot there, except, as pps have said, inside, where it's air-con icy Grin

I saw many people in sportswear (as indeed I was- racer-back gym top, linen shorts), many people in kimono-type tops, ordinary vest tops, t-shirts- the whole kit and caboodle. Legs, arms of all sizes, types and colours- and no-one cared in the least.

You might want to invest in a poncho though. When it wasn't a billion degrees, it was bucketing down. I spent the entire two weeks wet, either from sweat (I'm so ladylike) or from rain. Grin

SenecaFalls · 12/08/2015 13:22

Speaking as a veteran of many Florida summers, I think an umbrella is better for rain. It's way too hot for a poncho or raincoat. You want every bit of clothing to breathe and also be absorbent, which is why cotton is your friend.

A cotton scarf is a great idea, btw.

Shodan · 12/08/2015 13:56

You're probably right about the brolly, Seneca. It definitely gets clammy under a poncho.

I only didn't recommend it because my eyes are at the height where brolly spokes are being brandished most frequently- so entirely selfish on my part Grin

SenecaFalls · 12/08/2015 14:40

I'm tall. I can see that might well make a difference, especially in a sea of brollies. Smile

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2015 15:17

We took those pac a mac thing we got caught in a downpour the rains hot andyou are hot your jacket sticks to you its horrible wish i had taken a brolly instead makes much more sense
