DS was vomiting Saturday night. He caught it from his Dad. 48 hours later - last night - it was my turn. I haven't had an episode in the loo since 9am this morning still feel like shite.. Eaten nothing and no appetite.

Should I really be going in tomorrow, as my boss firmly suggested when I rung in this morning?

I work in a large open plan office, guidance on NHS website says stay off for 48 after last d or v. Does anyone in the workplace actually do this? Touch wood I am rarely unwell like this so don't know what the done thing is?

Yes I do get paid sickness. I've only had one other day off in the last year and we are "allowed" 8 a year.

I'm nhs too, you need 48hrs clear.
But then my dc's schools policy is 24hrs, what does your work sickness policy say?
I would stick with 48 hrs

googoodolly · 11/08/2015 16:43

Well, you get paid, so there's no reason not to take 48 hours off.

LittleMissStubborn · 11/08/2015 18:30

I had the same last week and took the 48hrs, tbh I still wasn't quite right the 2nd day and I work with vulnerable people.

It is a pita though, the first thing I was asked was if I wanted to take it as annual leave, I didn't, so whilst I was OK this time I can never be ill again for the next two years otherwise it gets escalted. Nearly everyone told me I should have just come in.

No option to work from home unfortunately, otherwise that'd be perfect. I don't think I would survive the commute in. I haven't eaten anything today and have zero appetite so even if "better" tomorrow I will be running on empty.

pleaee stay off. If you're not eating properly you're not well yet.

saltnpepa · 11/08/2015 20:06

Phone the doc tomorrow morning and ask for a sick note. They will give you that over the phone.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/08/2015 20:10

Just tell your boss you tried to eat and puked again.

Etak15 · 11/08/2015 20:43

You don't need sick note you can self certify for 7 days, wether you're still actually vomiting or not if your ill then your ill nothing you can do! Your boss shouldn't have even asked you today when you'll be back - how could you possibly know that in the middle of vomiting! he should have just asked you when you'll next be in touch to let him no the situation.

googoodolly · 11/08/2015 20:50

Most doctors won't give you a sick note unless you've either a) been off for a week already or b) will need to be off for at least 7 days.

You certainly don't need a sick note for a stomach bug and two days off work!

OiledBegg · 12/08/2015 11:17

Well i haven't gone in. Now attempting to eat something, fingers crossed I will be back tomorrow.
