Neighbours and parcels?

If I take them in, they should collect? Am I missing something? Usually run them round straightaway but have frankly been really busy this week - and in all week - and just don't see why I should do it again! Have taken few in for neighbour lately, they're in, we're in, haven't had a problem with postman not leaving cards...

They have form for being breath-takingly arrogant but didn't want to assume they were being so this time.

What euphemia said, basically. I'd wait for them to collect, if they don't come within a day, I'd pop round, but if it's happening a lot, wait for them to come to you (unless the parcel is massive and constantly in the way!)

rookiemere · 09/08/2015 17:14

YANBU. That's very rude of them - they should pick up their own parcels. If it's a regular thing, on this occasion I would bring it round, but make a special point of letting them know that it would be more convenient to you if they picked them up.

magicstar1 · 09/08/2015 17:16

Do they know you have them?

I don't take in parcels anyone.

EponasWildDaughter · 09/08/2015 17:21

I wait for them to collect (unless it's a bulky thing which i'm sick of seeing in the hall way). Been lucky so far, all our neighbors round here are quick to collect AND bring our parcels to us before we even get in and find the delivery card!

I wouldn't assume they know you have them. Often those delivery notes are scrawled in a hurry and don't give proper information.

SoupDragon · 09/08/2015 17:27

If I see the neighbour come home, I drop it round.
Sometimes they come round to get it.

There is not always a card left.

hedgehog01 · 09/08/2015 17:34

Postman is very conscientious and I've never not had a card. Have a lot of packages! I might just leave it for a while.

At our old house I could wait a week for one set of neighbours to collect parcels; sometimes large ones. Sometimes they had gone away. We didn't have a garage and the only place was the hall and they took space/cluttered. After about four occasions, when I wasn't thanked either, I just stopped agreeing to take them in. This was only once house btw; other neighbours were lovely.

SoupDragon · 09/08/2015 17:36

I once found a Red Card underneath the bench in the hall. Thankfully the neighbour had brought the parcel round as it was from a good few months earlier!

PuppyMonkey · 09/08/2015 18:17

Do you have mobile numbers? I would text them asking them to come and get their stuff.

Perhaps the card has gone missing, they've got embroiled in something else and forgot parcel or something.

I need other examples of their breathtaking arrogance though tbf. Grin

ForalltheSaints · 09/08/2015 18:22

Reciprocating is good manners and yes should happen.

Better still would be parcel deliveries to suit everyone in the first place, recognising that households where someone is in during Monday to Friday daytimes is not the norm.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 09/08/2015 18:25

are you sure they know you have the parcel? The reason i'm asking is because my neighbour chapped my dor this morning with a parcel for me that I didn't know they had because the amazon delivery driver didn't leave one and I wasn't expecting it till tomorrow

hedgehog01 · 09/08/2015 18:52

I wish I could say re the arrogance but it would out me for sure!

This comes up on MN every now and then. It's really not worth getting worked up / falling out over.
In theory, I'd say it's the parcel owner's job to come and collect from the person who takes the parcel in, but, IMVHO, it's no big deal to pop round when I have a moment. There's also the very likely possibility that they haven't had a card through the door - not all parcels are delivered by posties and all couriers have different standards of service.

VulcanWoman · 09/08/2015 19:10

I've stopped doing it and don't expect it either. Sometimes I like a cheeky nap in the afternoon and I don't want the door going. I arrange for my parcels to come on my day off.

HoggleHoggle · 09/08/2015 19:20

I would always expect the person whose parcel it is to collect. I'm happy enough to take it in but no way am I also performing a delivery service.

Noodledoodledoo · 09/08/2015 19:26

I expect them to collect them, or expect I will go and collect any for me. Although we have had a spate of drivers not leaving cards and I felt very bad as a parcel was with a neighbour for a week and I only found out when I chased the company and they told me the delivery address. There is nowhere for cards to go missing in our hallway.

If it's big I may pop it round, our neighbours will sometimes pop them round as they know I have a little one and it can be a juggling act to pop over at a convenient time without a baby to hold as well!
