to say bf babies absolutely do get wind!

My tiny ds is feeding great and falls asleep on boob. I sit him up, sometimes getting wind up and keep him upright on my chest for a while. He's out for the count. And then I put him down and he wriggles and grimaces with trapped wind and all that will settle him, even if I get wind up, is to feed again. .and the cycle continues!

Funny enough if I side feed him he will go off to sleep there and doesn't seem to suffer at all.

My BF DS used to have awful wind!

Gripe water was our saviour at times

mine did i had to express a tiny amount of breastmilk and mix with gripe water .But breastfed of rest of time

gripe water really helped

i found certain foods i ate did something funny to my breastmilk

like curry would result in my daughter having awful nappys

Both of mine had terrible wind, and that was with dd being bf directly and ds having every feed expressed

One of mine did, the other didn't but the one that did had an undiagnosed tongue tie and was swallowing loads of air.

They are all different.

both mine did too. they were mini trump machines.
i remember the frustration as i asked for wind removing techniques and being told time and time again that they couldn't possibly. i had my latch examined so many times i often wondered why i even bothered to wear a top

YANBU All 3 of mine were EBF and windy.
Try to wind him properly though rather than feeding him again as I found getting mine into a routine of bigger feeds with longer gaps in between cut down on the wind and colic - that just might have been me though as it depends how efficient they are at feeding and also your milk supply. Maybe worth reposting this on the breastfeeding board if you want some more expert advice.

Yes, BF babies definitely can have wind! All three of mine did and I got very sick of health visitors/relatives suggesting it was incorrect latching on/positioning that caused it. It's hard enough dealing with a windy baby and breastfeeding every couple of hours without being made to feel that the windiness is somehow your own bloody fault.... We used Infacol drops religiously from quite early on and after about three months with each baby it became much easier to get the burps up. Hang in there - you are doing amazing!

Ds1 did, ds2 I rarely had any trouble with wind, I found that by drinking fennel tea a couple of times a day it totally solved him being windy. It was noticeable the first time I didn't drink any and the poor thing was doubled over. (Wish I'd known about it on ds1).
Told a friend who tried it and she also found it helped brilliantly.

So great to read these replies! GGoing to try the fennel tea! Have been told no need to wind just sit him up straight but will try harder, know would be much better to have bigger feeds. Apparently no tt so hopefully they're right. to you all!

I hope it works for you, I know that I got some in Tesco but I also used to buy it loose in bags in the Eastern European food shop in the town near me and make it in a little tea ball thing. Best of luck, you'll get there, I don't know anyone who didn't find different things difficult with babies, it's a learning curve. Even what works one day, might not the next, but with time hopefully things get easier.

Look up silent reflux. DS did that it was actually severe silent reflux, he was much better once on the necessary meds.

DD had terrible wind problems as a bf baby - she had a cows milk protein allergy. The wind was a very small part of her long list of symptoms. She fine now's she's on a specialist prescription milk.

I just thought I'd put those out there as thing to consider as well. But yes I think the "bf babies don't get wind" is rubbish anyway (along with a number of other common claims too).

Yes they do, don't listen to NCT! I was so surprised. It sounds like your baby might have reflux though as sleeping on back doesn't work but side does.

DS2 was breastfed for 9 months and had dreadful wind. If he was put down without being winded after a feed he'd projectile vomit a fountain into the air and need another feed immediately. Our HV used to tell me off and demand I show her his latch whenever I mentioned it; his latch was fine, he was just a windypopper baby!
