My dd 17, 18 in a few weeks wants to get two cosmetic surgeries, a boob and chin implant.

She has been saving since 16 and worked every saturday and half day sunday and now is £400 away from affording the surgeries. She has picked a surgeon. She has always been insecure with her chest and chin.

She has asked for the £400 for her birthday present, aibu to give her the money.

Chin surgery can literally work wonders to a face. The chin is such an important feature it adds structure.

Eastpoint · 02/08/2015 19:32

One of my friends had a chin implant at 25, she looked so much better, not different, just like herself but prettier.

RosePetels · 02/08/2015 19:39

It's up to you if you give her the money and it's up to her what she does with her body

ImperialBlether · 02/08/2015 19:40

I knew a woman who had a "Jimmy Hill" chin when she was young. She got to the point where she didn't want to leave the house and never went out with friends in the evening. When she was about 18 she went to the doctor about something else and he (nicely) asked about her chin - he said she could have it done on the NHS because there were other things that could go wrong if she left it like that. She looked amazing afterwards. I only knew her after she'd had it done but saw the "before" pictures and like Eastpoint said, she looked just like herself but prettier.

Her mind seems made up - so making sure it's a good surgeon is really the best thing you can do.

I know several people who had one thing "done" and then stopped.

It each case it was a thing that had significantly bothered them for a long time. Nose, chin, ears boobs etc.

When you say a weak chin I am hoping it just involves a small implant - I went to school with a girl who had her jaw BROKEN and moved forward. It sounded like a horrific procedure but in fairness she was happy/thought it worth the effort.

I had a chin job aged 17 on the NHS as I had a very weak chin. It was first recommended to me when I was 15 if I remember correctly - but the surgeon wanted me to have some orthodontic work first and not have the surgery until they were sure my chin and jaw wouldn't grow any more. The result was great and I'm really happy I had it done.

I've had a boob job too but that wasn't until I was 36. Again I'm really glad I had it done. They look great and there haven't been any complications at all. I just wish I'd had it done sooner instead of spending so many years feeling self conscious about my flat chest!

I had my chin broken and moved forward too by the way - like your friend musicalbingo! That's called a mandibular osteotomy. Then I had the genioplasty (chin implant). It was pretty horrible to be honest and there was a lot of bruising and swelling afterwards, but it was definitely worth it in the long run.

Vagndidit · 02/08/2015 20:59

What on earth is a weak chin?? I'm a stupid American bit sheltered and have to admit I've never heard that phrase before.

VerityWaves · 02/08/2015 21:02

It's a chin that falls backward , sort of receeds back and can cause other problems with speech and eating as a person gets older.

M00nUnit · 02/08/2015 21:05

It's when someone's chin is too far back. Like Princess Anne for example.

WipsGlitter · 02/08/2015 21:14

Princess Anne's chin looks fine.

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 02/08/2015 21:29

If she has a chin like that then braces will be far more helpful than surgery.

SrAssumpta · 02/08/2015 21:52

Honestly I know it's bribery but I'd offer to pay the whole bloody lot if she'd just wait till 23.
18 is still so so young.

I've got nothing against cosmetic surgery but you're still developing at 18.

VerityWaves · 02/08/2015 22:26

I know what you're saying but she wants to look good coming into her 20s and late teens, when you're meeting people etc. I really see why she wants it now.

M00nUnit · 02/08/2015 23:07

Sweetandfullofgrace braces do not correct chins, they correct teeth.

I had a boob job at 18 and regret it. I developed a seroma which is a build up of fluid after 19 months and had to have them removed. No refund of course so 4500 wasted. They think as my natural breasts grew my implant rubbed on the natural tissue and kept making it swell hugely!! Which then led to capsular contracture which is very common in implants. I'm now 20 and wish I never spent that on myself. I also have a differentview of life now and my looks now aren't everything! Although I had them done for me it was for a confidence booster and it in fact did the opposite. I was an A cup when I implanted and a tiny size 8. I went to a FF and up a dress size. Had them removed and now I'm a D/DD. I would advise with the boob job to wait until 21. Maybe telling her my story will help?

If she's dead set on surgery still I advise no big companies such as the hospital group transform or mya. All their aftercare is awful. Once they have your money they don't care. I had to fight to have my implants removed and an nhs specialist breast consultant said he sees people with problems that won't be treated by these big companies all the time. He said if I was ever to have any surgery again then to go through my gp and go with an independant surgeon that they advise.

Alot of these big companies have the bare minimum qualifications for cosmetic surgery. So when it goes wrong a lot don't have the skills to fix. Her gp will refer her to a plastic surgeon which has higher qualifications and are trained in reconstructions etc when things do go wrong.

Please remind her implants aren't for life. She will need an Op every 10 years or before if complications happen. The big companies say complications are rare but they really aren't!

lastqueenofscotland · 02/08/2015 23:21

Fwiw a friend of mine from school had a boob job at 18, then after they grew naturally by quite a lot, and she then had to have a reduction as she was getting horrific back pain. Poor girl was in agony, was only really comfortable lying down. Id, as much as you can, insist she waits a bit for that?

measles64 · 02/08/2015 23:38

I would agree to the surgeon looking at her chin and advising on what to do. However not her boobs Katie Price regrets hers now. So find articles on the drawbacks.

tvlover1234 · 02/08/2015 23:40

If she watches Towie ask her to read about Amy child's and all her problems with the two boob jobs she had also. She had the same surgeon as me
