To think that Spelt Kedgeree is the most pretentious festival combo The End

At festival

Friend told me he had 'Spelt Kedgeree' for dinner. We both agreed that this is the trump card pretentious festival food, and that now 'everyone' knows how to pronounce Keeeenwaaaaa quinoa spelt is the chosen 'healthy' grain.

Said friend has given up the Paleo diet and I forced him to eat chips at lunchtime to counteract the Spelt.

No thanks

Ok then Hmm

You seem irrationally upset at a foodstuff that nobody forced you to eat.

trufflesnout · 01/08/2015 23:38

Excuse me but there's no trigger warning & you didn't include lighthearted in the title (and if it's not lighthearted then there must be a trigger, else what's the point?)

I like keenoir and buckwheat but I think spelt is a step too far. Please inform your friend(s).

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/08/2015 23:41

If it has fish and eggs, surely it can't be festival food? ShockGrin

cleanindahouse · 02/08/2015 09:53

If that's irrationally upset, i'd be interested to see what hysterical looks like.

Hassled · 02/08/2015 09:59

Spelt Kedgeree sounds bad and wrong. Also unnecessary - there's nowt wrong with a bit of good old-fashioned rice .

DameDoom · 02/08/2015 09:59

Did you post after having enjoyed several bottles of organic Shiraz to bleach brain of spelt shocker OP?Wink

Bunbaker · 02/08/2015 10:03

I can't get on with Spelt at all. It gives me dreadful wind.

Passmethecrisps · 02/08/2015 10:06

I had spelt risotto for dinner last night.
It was alright with half a bag of cheese on top

ArgyMargy · 02/08/2015 10:08

I thought this was going to be about how to spell kedgeree more attractively.

Passmethecrisps · 02/08/2015 10:09

I will keep my eye out for it now on the baby naming thread

YakTriangle · 02/08/2015 10:11

Festival food is a huge mound of revolting noodles, or a manky burger from a van that cost a fiver. Kedgeree? What fresh hell is this?

Bonsoir · 02/08/2015 10:11

You have been able to get spelt (farrow) "risotto" in upmarket restaurants in Italy for ages...

Bonsoir · 02/08/2015 10:11

farro

DameDoom · 02/08/2015 10:12

Sorry!

TiredButFine · 02/08/2015 10:32

Ostrich burgers are so two years ago, banh mi and siratchca has had it's time...I feel so out of the loop.

TheHoundsBitch · 02/08/2015 10:35

Is spelt farro then? I like farro, it's yummy :)

Dowser · 02/08/2015 11:08

I love spelt.

We have spelt instead of rice sometimes. Bulgur wheat is lovely too.
This thread is making me feel hungry.

Buckwheat pancakes...lush!

Sighing · 02/08/2015 11:27

I like kedgeree and spelt. Wouldn't want to eat something like that at a festival though. Very wary of anything I can't heat from a tin or eat dry at events.

CuttedUpPear · 02/08/2015 11:38

I'm sorry but I made spelt pastry the other week, for jam tarts.

It was the best pastry I have EVER made.

Shock Shock Shock Shock

WorktoLive · 02/08/2015 11:39

I've never had spelt but I have made risotto with pearl barley, which I believe some people on here have strong views about.

DP works at festivals and reports back to me on the quality and variety of the catering. Some of it sounds quite nice, some of it pretentious wankery and some of it the sort of food that you would only normally eat if late at night and very drunk.

Was the kedgeree otherwise normal, eg with fish, eggs and spices, or was it a vegan abomination with seaweed and tofu (nothing against vegans, who have very admirable principles but some substitutes are just weird and wrong).
