post office collection places should be open later than 12

In a major city and central in bristol but the post office collection place closes at 12 on sat. Its open all weekdays until 6 but as I commute and leave work at 5:30 that's too late.

Would it really be hard to just close early one weekday and open till 5 on a Saturday?

Sorry Unlucky, are you saying that all the Post Offices near you are only open until 12 on a Saturday. There are two near me that are part of a convenience store that are open until 8pm every night. In Bristol there must be one near you that does that too.

Frankly, I think that you are being awkward and are going to have to get up on a Saturday morning.

ilovesooty · 03/08/2015 12:29

They don't have a monopoly I'm having two parcels delivered by courier this week. I also don't believe that in a city like Bristol all post offices close before 12.

If they have the volume of business, then they are open longer.

Ours opens 07:30 weekdays, closing 19:00 or 20:00, Saturdays 07:30-14:00 and Sundays 12:00-16:00.

Or try a different delivery address? Corner shops seem to be offering this service these days.

ilovesooty · 03/08/2015 12:37

Loads of corner shops and convenience stores operate a parcel pick up and drop off service. Quite a few eBay sellers offer pick up at Argos. My local petrol station has lockers for parcel pick up.

I imagine the OP could find a solution if she tried a bit harder. I must admit that I wouldn't be imposing on a neighbour without making a bit more effort.

Our local one was 7:30-12 daily and then 8-11:45 on a Saturday - just had to go on the way to work if unable to make the Saturday. Was a bit of a pain but you just adjusted to it.

We then moved and its 7-2:30 daily including Saturdays.

It's the downside of buying online - I have designated a safe space so most things can be left. Plus most neighbours will help out and I help them out as well.

Our local collection office is 2 bus rides away and I'm not in a rural area. We used to have one in our local high street but they closed it despite local opposition.

unlucky4marie · 03/08/2015 13:45

Similar issues here jam but not as bad. I know some people that can't even get to their sorting office as don't have a car.

Its not like you can always choose who delivers the package when you checkout.

Ours is really good. Open from 6am in the week and to 9pm on a Wednesday so I can go before or after work.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 03/08/2015 14:24

If you want a neighbour or even your DP/DH/DW to pickup from the sorting office on your behalf they will need proof of your ID as well as their own. Been caught out a few times with that when trying to pickup something for 'im indoors. Our local one checks everyone now.

The opening hours are pretty good as its 07.00 to 18.00 Mon to Fri (Weds to 20.00 and 07.00 to 14.00 on Saturday.

If it's true we live in a free-market economy (hah !) then market forces dictate this will change.

If it does, my money is on Amazon first.

sadwidow28 · 03/08/2015 14:35

OP, you can re-direct to another address in your postcode area free of charge (I assume your neighbour is in same PC area)

Do it on-line here: www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/redelivery

Rosesareblack · 03/08/2015 18:27

Do you have a 'safe place' it can be left?

Redtowel · 03/08/2015 19:25

Get it sent to your office in the first place. Problem solved.

PervyMuskrat · 03/08/2015 19:45

I sympathise OP, I've lived in Bristol and the sorting office near us had similar opening hours and was hard to reach on public transport. I live elsewhere now and the opening hours are more reasonable (although moving to get a better postal service could be considered a little extreme Wink)
