Agree with
A spot of bother and The Tent the bucket and me.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 31/07/2015 00:04

Around Ireland with a fridge is fantastic.

The douchebag journals, spin off from new girl, is good for a random 5 minutes etc.

Peanuts. There are loads out there, it's funny and it's a world that envelopes you and makes you smile.

'Join me - the man who started a cult by accident' by Danny Wallace. I cried laughing at this. Yes man, and Friends like these are also good fun, light hearted and enjoyable to read.

Getthewonderwebout · 31/07/2015 00:18

The Woman who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend

Let's Pretend This Never Happened

TwistInMySobriety · 31/07/2015 07:37

Diary of a nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith and 1066 and all that by ? yeats and Sellars. And Yy to three men in a boat. Funniest book I've ever read.

EponasWildDaughter · 31/07/2015 08:01

The Framley Examiner.

Extra funny if you live in a small village and get the local paper. (which the FE is a piss take of) Also extra funny if you're a grammar pedant.

Teaandsympathy33 · 31/07/2015 08:36

Wise Children by Angela Carter. Cheeky humour in a magical world. A favourite of mine since I was a teenager, which I go back to during difficult times. Always does the trick.

AnneSansTete · 31/07/2015 09:05

The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy is very funny

Janeymoo50 · 31/07/2015 09:18

Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks, really funny book.

GatoradeMeBitch · 31/07/2015 09:44

I agree with any of Bill Brysons' travel books. Very funny, and he also paints a beautiful picture of wherever he is.

Theycallmemellowjello · 31/07/2015 09:49

Douglas Adams! And more love for David Sedaris from me.

Theycallmemellowjello · 31/07/2015 09:49

Ooh Jon Ronson's books are also amusing.

MinesaBottle · 31/07/2015 09:57

The Diary of a Nobody. Like Adrian Mole if he was a Victorian bank clerk.

Agree with everyone who suggested Bill Bryson - any of the travel books are brilliant.

I, Partridge by Alan Partridge - you can't help reading it in his voice iyswim, plus the audiobook is fantastic.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the sequel But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes - Lorelei is awful but you can't help liking her, and Dorothy is even funnier!

Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid chronicles are brilliant, particularly the wolfhound Oberon.

CoogerAndDark · 31/07/2015 17:12

Early PJ O'Rourke I.e. Holidays In Hell

ComposHatComesBack · 31/07/2015 17:18

Another vote for David Niven's the moon's a balloon, 'bring on the empty horses' by David Niven is good too.

The diary of a nobody by George Grossmith is very good too.

Uncle Mort's North County by Peter Tinniswood never fails to make me laugh if I'm down in the dumps.

mackerella · 31/07/2015 18:09

Diary of a Provincial Lady is hilarious
Barbara Pym is v funny in a gentle, understated, observational way
YY to Jasper Fforde - I'm currently reading his Dragonslayer series, which is aimed at teens but still very funny
Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's series has the same sort of feel as Jasper Fforde
Jonathan Stroud's books made me literally LOL
Georgette Heyer
Angela Thirkell

RitaKiaOra · 01/08/2015 17:40

mellojello agree with Jon Ronson You've been publically shamed and The psychopath test are both fantastic.

RitaKiaOra · 04/08/2015 02:30

Bumping for another insomniac!

PlummyBrummy · 04/08/2015 04:01

The time waster diaries! I cried so hard at some of the letters that I cried, snotted and choked (that's a good thing)!

EdmundSlackbladder · 04/08/2015 08:34

David Wong, the 'John dies at the end' books. Horror but very, very funny. And of course anything Douglas Adams.

EdmundSlackbladder · 04/08/2015 08:36

Ooh and definitely Jonathan L Howard's Johannes Cabal series.
