To think that this guy really needs a driving ban?

I feel a bit bad posting this because I know him quite well and he seems like a generally nice bloke apart from his driving.

DP's boss/business partner drives, shall we say, a bit recklessly. He basically has the mentality of a boy racer except he is a father of two in his late twenties. He speeds, he zooms through corners, generally just races around the road without much care and attention (in my opinion). Some of the time when he is driving like this he is driving a very large, heavy vehicle (think a 4 tonne truck).

He has more than the required number of points to take your license away, the only reason he still has a license is because he appealed to the judge - his business relies on him being able to drive, and his son lives a 7hr round trip away so driving facilitates his seeing his son.

You would think that given all this he would be very careful with his driving from now on but he isn't! Not long ago he rear ended someone and was caught speeding again and I can't help but wonder if ibu to think he actually should be banned at least for a little while and hopefully it'll be enough of a shock to his system to get him to drive more safety? It makes me quite angry that he is still driving despite his attitude on the road.

The man's a twat. Sadly, the only way these people will stop is if they actually kill someone.

Agree he won't stop until he kills someone else or himself.

Can you show him some of those road safety ads with small children in them?

I don't think it would make much difference honeysuckle. I think he's better when he has his kids in the car, I don't think his wife would allow him to drive like that with them but he should be safer all the time not just with them.

What does your DP say about it? hasn't he had a word? or does he tell you to mind your own business?

That isn't big at all. A Transit van is 3.5 tonne.

As an 18 year old I was stood at the kitchen sink washing up when I heard a thud. I looked up in time to see a 'doll' flying down the road. Except it wasn't a doll. It was a child. The child had stepped out from between parked cars into the path of an oncoming vehicle. I was first on the scene and did what I could but what really, really got to me was the child's parents arriving on scene and the dad completely lost it at the sight of his small child. The driver never drove again and spent time on a psychiatric ward getting over what had happened (he was completely cleared of fault by the police and the court)

That day affects how I drive today and I am now 51 considerably older than I was then.

I hope this driver never himself in the position of the driver of that car. I cannot begin to imagine what it does to your soul.

Crusts, DP agrees with me and has mentioned it to him in typical 'you'll be screwed if you carry on like that and lose your license mate' kind of way.

TTWK - ok it isn't that big but it's a hell of a lot bigger than your average car, especially when it has another car on the back of it.

Do remember being introduced to a colleague of Ex DW who bragged shamelessly about the fact that he had driven his car so fast that Cheshire Police had launched a helicopter to follow him and then put in a road block to catch him. And what did this tosser do for a living I hear you ask?? Hospital consultant.
