How much do you earn and who do you vote for

So inspired, by another thread that contained the words "labour are cancer" I am genuinely interested in the correlation between what people earn and who they vote for. Is anyone else interested in this?

Our household income is £125k pa and we vote labour, even though we would be worse off, because I think we should help society as a whole.

OP posts:
PinguForPresident · 29/07/2015 08:16

Household income about £70k (mostly H's salary as I'm a student). Both voted Green at last GE. I have since registered as a Labour supporter to vote fro Jeremy Corbyn as his policies make sense and he's a highly able and principled politician. I will revert to Green if he doesn't win. H remains a Green Party member.

The Tory arguments that they're the only ones to be trusted with the economy absolutely don't hold water, as they've borrowed more money over the last 5 years than the LAbour government did over the preceeding 13.

DamnedRose · 29/07/2015 08:20

25k vote conservative

Georgiedawes · 29/07/2015 08:20

We have a joint income of about 40k, but are still early-mid 20s.

I work in the public sector.

Will always vote Tory, live in a safe Tory seat and my family are landowners.

LuluJakey1 · 29/07/2015 08:27

£120,000 approx
Both lifelong Labour voters and party members
Will vote for Corbyn

UnderTheFloorboards · 29/07/2015 08:30

Household income of £96k. I'm a labour member and a TU rep, DP floats around the centre-left. Neither of us would ever vote tory & I'll be voting for Corbyn.

DrDre · 29/07/2015 08:33

Our household income is ~42k before tax. I voted Conservative, my wife (SAHM) voted Labour.

Dothefridgesquat · 29/07/2015 08:37

We earn 10k voted Tory

Guiltismymaster · 29/07/2015 08:39

37k outside London while I am part time. Voted Lib dem, it was between them and plaid cymru in our area.

Historically I have voted for different parties, not a clue who I would vote for if I were still in England!

Moodyblue1 · 29/07/2015 08:40

Household income approx £125k both voted labour

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/07/2015 08:41

Isn't being a public sector worker and voting conservative a bit like a turkey voting for Christmas? I've never understood this.

kaymondo · 29/07/2015 08:43

You'll never get a fully representative response on here - partly because the OP starts with the proposition that they vote labour because they care, ergo suggesting all Tory voters are evil and don't care. That makes a lot of people who vote conservative think there's no point in getting involved in the discussion.

DH and I are high earners - we both vote conservative. However we do so because we think that is the best way forward for society as a whole. And you know what, we may be wrong but it is a genuinely held belief. And all you labour voters who think everyone would be better off with a labour gov, you may be right - but then again you might be wrong too. We'll never know.

I'm just so fed up of the attitude on here that all Conservative voters vote for themselves whilst all labour voters vote for the masses.

Wishful80sMontage · 29/07/2015 08:43

Joint income around 70k we voted conservatives as did majority of our fanilies bar my mum voted labour (always)

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 29/07/2015 08:44

Household income £75k, dh earns slightly more than me.
I voted lib dem he voted Tory, we live in a very safe Tory seat.

DrDre · 29/07/2015 08:44

I worked in the public sector when Labour were in power. It wasn't exactly great then, we were starved of cash during their administration, and they made a right mess of the area I worked in (forensics).

Seriouslyffs · 29/07/2015 08:45

Household high- my charity sector support role makes up 15% of the household income. Both Labour Party members and will vote Corbin & Burnham. Privately educated DC also Labour and would have been snatched out of their gilded cages the second they started thinking privilege is anything but a er, privilege

Georgiedawes · 29/07/2015 08:45

I don't work here for the money, I work here because I enjoy it. Plus the holiday, sick pay etc is good. However, you do find those that do complain are those earning the big bucks anyway.

But my views are very Tory, it's the way I've been bought up, I don't let on to my colleagues though as they were all practically in tears the day after the GE.

LadyStark · 29/07/2015 08:47

Household income of £175k. Both voted Conservative in last election, DP is lifelong Tory and I am a floating voter and have prev voted Labour.

lavendersun · 29/07/2015 08:47

More than OP - Labour

Dawndonnaagain · 29/07/2015 08:48

We were on 90,000. One green, one Labour.
Dbrother 1, six figure salary, Liberal.
Dbrother 2, six figure salary, Conservative.
Dsis, six figure salary, Labour.

billybennett · 29/07/2015 08:48

Household income £240k. Voted for token independent candidate last election but we live in a super safe Labour seat. Would have voted Labour if it mattered.

Bubblesinthesummer · 29/07/2015 08:48

I worked in the public sector when Labour were in power. It wasn't exactly great then, we were starved of cash during their administration, and they made a right mess of the area I worked in (forensics).

It was the same for the area my DP works in.

He is a Labour voter, but not so blind he thinks that when they are in power it's some sort of wonderful utopia and everything is wonderful.

Caryam · 29/07/2015 08:50

£51k with two of us working. We are both floating voters, but I voted Labour last time. Don't know what DP voted, but will be either Labour or Green.

FuzzyWizard · 29/07/2015 08:50

Haha Georgie. Yes... Our staff room was very subdued the morning after the election. I'd actually been crying over the speeches of the very long-standing lib-dem MPs losing their seats. (Pathetic emoticon) There are a couple of Tories in the staffroom and they couldn't bring themselves to be smug about it for which I was very grateful.

Pixi2 · 29/07/2015 08:53

Household income well above average. Floating voters. I voted labour last time as austerity isn't working IMO.

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/07/2015 08:54

Grin Georgie - I well remember the atmosphere in my office the day after the GE. Ironically I work in the world of police and crime commissioners which Labour had promised to abolish. So I suppose I'm as guilty as the rest for being a turkey since I voted Labour!

DrDre - which seems to go against the widely perpetuated Tory myth that the reason the country got into such financial trouble was because Labour overspent on public services.
