To feed toddler like this??

So for e.g a weeks worth of dinners might be:
Monday- spag bol
Tues- spaghetti on toast
Weds- sausage caserole, veg and rice
Thurs- tuna, pasta and sweetcorn
Friday- one of those little dish ready meal toddler dinner things
Saturday- omlette, baby potatoes, veg
Sunday- fish cakes (frozen) veg and mash.

Other regulars are tortellini (sp?) Fish fingers, pasta and sauce, macoroni cheese etc..

Lunch is almost always a bagel with hummus and grated carrot, or cream cheese. Plus fruit and sometimes yoghurt.
Breakfast is weatabix or porridge or toast.

The odd treat/little milky bar/ packet of those toddler crisps/ chocolate buttons every so often too..

Sometimes I feel like its an OK diet, then other times i feel like its bad.
I'm not great at cooking and its only me and DS so a big meal every night seems a bit long winded when it's just going to get thrown in the floor. I do cook and freeze some stuff.

I'm not concerned with him having a perfect diet or anything but I want him to have a healthy diet! Or at least, healthy enough.

He's 2 next month.

Lurked... I totally agree. I really dislike tomatoes but I eat them as an example. I'll just keep putting it down in front of him then? I never make an issue of it, praise if he picks it up to his mouth etc but not bothered that it isn't eaten. The way I see it, he gets hidden veg when I cook stuff so I'll have to content myself with that! It's just hard to remember when you hear parents saying "oh little Tarquinius loves his carrot, celery and pepper sticks with organic homemade humus" One mum I spoke to recently nonchalantly told me how she made smoothies with brocoli and spinach with fruit and her kids just loooooove it. I was a bit Hmm but at the same time I was in awe of her commitment to the vegetable quest. All things in their own time I guess.

Might try avocado or sardines on toast... Thanks bigkid

It's a bit, well, all meat is processed- mince sausages, canned tuna.

could probably use some actual meat.

but tbh it's not a bad diet. looks balanced and lots of ways to sneak in veg Grin

and as you say it's also easy to make extra and freeze.

In all honesty I would he perfectly happy with that and stop worrying so much he eats a damn sight better than alot of people do.

Flowers

fyi dd2 is a tuna freak Hmm

That's all I did, when she got to about 6 and was eating some veg I did tell her I agreed sprouts and cauliflower were actually nasty ( having never ate them in front of her) but she might have different tastes because I don't like haribo either yet she does. She's always remained open minded and at 11 has a broader palate and healthier attitude to food than the little Tarquinius we knew, who spends a lot of time sneaking in shops to buy sweets and refuses to eat anything not drowned in ketchup away from mummy's eagle eye!

Similar ish to DD and I consider that she has a good diet. The only main difference is that Sunday is roast day, and she loves her chicken/beef/pork/lamb with roasties, veg and Yorkshire pud. Then on Monday night she eats the leftovers. Grin

Re veg, DD likes a good selection, but isn't keen on salad veg. I always try to put something on her plate that she doesn't eat and encourage her to try it. This led to DM laughing at me the other week, as I asked DH if I should only give her things she likes, since it was her party.

Siennasun- its the only lunch thing he'll eat, even if I give him things he eats at dinner time for lunch he refuses. Toddlers be crazy.

Gileswithachainsaw- he won't eat any other type of meat/fish, unless I hide it so sometimes I shred some chicken into his pasta and sauce but if he detects if the whole meal is going on the floor. He'll eat chicken caseroles sometimes if i mash the chicken but I think he doesn't like the texture of meat.

Sounds pretty good and varied to me.

We used to have fish fingers A LOT but I now buy a large amount of white fish (haddock, cod, or if I'm feeling flush lemon sole), dip in flour and egg, then breadcrumb, cut into goujons and freeze. Take out however many you need and shallow fry.

Voila - home made fish fingers. Makes me feel about better that it was one more homemade dish.
