Goods delivered twice, WWYD?

So... I ordered a candle from a luxury brand for a friends wedding present, engraved with the date of her wedding. I have been sent two, both engraved, but charged for only the one I had ordered. As the item is personalised, AIBU in thinking that there is no point in telling the company as no one else would want it anyway? The engraving is very very faint, and I would definitely still use it. I think it would look bizarre if I gave them both to my friend. Should I keep the candle for myself or tell the company? It was £57.

Once had a dress (£250) delivered twice. I returned one so essentially got a free dress. The guilt still haunts me Smile

Floggingmolly · 24/07/2015 22:53

You returned it for a refund, sink??

twinkletoedelephant · 24/07/2015 22:59

Mil ordered wood flooring and collected it on the same day from the warehouse on site. months later an irate man phone demanding she collect her flooring as it was taking space up.... She ignored it he kept leaving messages... We moved house he called again threatening storage costs so she collected it and delivered it straight to us.. It still looks lovely and came with thick sound proof underlay :-)

cremedecacao · 25/07/2015 09:33

Just for the record, I got to keep the candle! Woohoo, guilt free Jo Malone!

My dm ordered a 30 quid wool mix runner to put on her new hall carpet. They delivered 5!! And randomly, they never replied to her email asking to send a courier to pick up the 4 unwanted ones. I (and probably a few other family members) now have them in our halls Grin

RunningJumpingClimbingTrees · 25/07/2015 09:45

This sort of happened to me with a tommee tippee starter kit. first one got lost in the post so a second was despatched and arrived the next day. About a week later I got an email saying the first one was en route (found in back of van or something) I told the delivery company to return it as I had already received it which they did and then another week later I got a refund on my account....I didn't notice the refund for quite a while because I had given birth in the interim and didn't do anything about it which I still feel slightly bad for Shock

I ordered a TV for ds from amazon ,and they sent two. Phoned them up, and they sent out a courier to collect the extra one.
A week later I had a refund for it. Phoned them again, explained, and asked them to charge me for it. They took payment, and sent another TV. Called again, they told me to keep the extra TV, and promptly refunded me for it.
I gave up then, the kids have a free TV each.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/07/2015 10:25

You're not allowed to just keep it, you're supposed to notify them and make it available for collection. If they don't, it's then that you can keep it.

Well done for doing the right thing op!

MidniteScribbler · 25/07/2015 10:29

I had a duplicate order of some teaching supplies last year. They actually told me that it wasn't worth the hassle to them or I to worry about trying to send it back to them and to just keep them.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 25/07/2015 12:08

I ordered shoes for my daughter. They never turned up so I contacted Amazon, they sent another pair. Two pairs turned up. Queried it, they said keep shoes. Daughter is slightly gutted it was sensible black brogues not funky boots.

I ordered some Alessi things for Christmas gifts. I thought one hadn't turned up, they sent another. This was in September. (Organised!)
When I was wrapping in December I discovered that I did actually have the original. I rang the shop and explained that I now had one I hadn't paid for.
The guy was amazed at my honesty. I just paid for the second over the phone and kept it.

GizzyTiedToATree · 25/07/2015 12:32

It happened to me a few times, with M&S and Amazon. I contacted them to ask them if thery wanted to send someone to pick it up, and I was told to keep the items.

One Asda sent me someone else's order (mine arrived the next day). I contacted them to explain, they asked me to send it back. I refused to have to pay anything for their mistake and asked them to have the items collected. They never replied.

I still have the bag of size 8 pregnancy clothes and newborn pyjamas somewhere - I hope the Swedish lady they were intended for got them in the end!

DoJo · 25/07/2015 12:34

You are allowed to keep unsolicited goods:

But this wasn't unsolicited - the OP ordered the candle and a mistake resulted in two being delivered. From the link you posted:

But if goods are sent to you by mistake, you need to contact whoever sent them to let them know and ask them to collect the goods. You might get goods sent by mistake if they are meant for someone else or you’ve been sent duplicate or extra items on top of what you ordered.

ribbitTheFrog · 25/07/2015 12:36

I had this recently with some dog food (I don't have a dog, I had ordered cat food) I notified the company and they said they'd send someone to collect it but they never did. Now I'm looking for a dog owner to give it to Grin

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/07/2015 12:37

We ordered some motocross gear for our son one year for Christmas - helmet, body armour, some other bits and bobs. It was a couple of hundred pounds' worth. The company sent a duplicate parcel, so I phoned them. The chap on the phone just said "Okay, I'll send you a label so you can return the second parcel". Not even a 'Thank You for being honest' or 'Sorry for the inconvenience'!!

At the time I was a bit cross and wish I'd kept the duplicate parcel. Grin
But if the same thing happened again, I would still send it back. I'd feel too guilty . . .

RedHelenB · 25/07/2015 12:47

Is there a dog rescue near you ribbit?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 25/07/2015 13:37

I am literally going through this right now - the goods being an iPhone 6 of which i was sent 2! Have so far spent over an hour trying to get the supplier to collect the extra one..getting the sense they cannot be bothered to do it unless i do all the running around and am beginning to get very exasperated with them that they expect me to work so hard to get it back to them.

WaitingForEgg · 25/07/2015 13:58

WorkingItOut this happened to me with a tv i was sent two of. In the end I kept them as I tried to get them to take it but it was proving so much hassle for me it wasn't worth it.

SophiesDog · 25/07/2015 21:35

Woohoo, guilt free Jo Malone!

With someone else's wedding date engraved on it though?

I imagine you can turn it round to face the wall, probably. But still. Grin

Maiyakat · 25/07/2015 21:44

I had this with a Dyson. Contacted the company (not Dyson itself, could only contact via email), they said they'd collect on a certain date, didn't turn up, contacted them again, no reply, sent further email saying if they didn't contact me in next 7 days I'd presume they were not collecting it, and they never did! Gave it to my mum (I definitely don't hoover enough to justify 2 Dysons!)

BitterChocolate · 25/07/2015 22:03

I had to mini micro scooters delivered when I ordered one for DD. I phoned them about it and the lovely person who answered asked me to donate it to a local charity of my choice. So I gave it to the toy library at my local church.

MissDuke · 25/07/2015 22:15

I won a book of my choice to the value of £20 from a huge publisher. They sent a totally different one that was worth £90 (medical textbook). I emailed and they apologised and said I could do what I wanted with it and they resent the correct book - twice! I sold the extra books on ebay. I would never have kept them without their go ahead though!

PrimalLass · 25/07/2015 22:18

My MIL and late FIL came home with a play tent for DS one day. But when we opened the box there were ten in there Grin they had walked out with the whole box instead of just one by mistake.
