I've just been paid, and this is the last wage slip I will have until the end of September.

I'm trying to reassure myself that all will be fine but just the same, it seems a LONG eleven weeks ...

Where do you live that has no facilities and what do you eat?

LIZS · 24/07/2015 21:00

No shared kitchen , hob/ring ? What are your living arrangements?

MerryInthechelseahotel · 24/07/2015 21:04

Have you got children op? If you are free in the evening perhaps you could babysit?

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:04

No, just have a kettle.

I eat porridge - those packs you can pour boiling water on - and toast, when I want something hot, otherwise I just have snacks/sandwichy things.

OP posts:
willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:04

No don't have any children :)

Instant foods are rarely the most economical. You need to find a way of cooking. Fine with salads at the moment but no good in winter. Are you not allowed cooking devices?

HighwayDragon · 24/07/2015 21:16

Where do you live where there is no fridge or anything? Shock

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:17

Respectfully LIZS, that's not helpful when I don't have an alternative.

OP posts:
LIZS · 24/07/2015 21:20

Sorry , you're short of money and seeking advice. Those instant porridge things are expensive. I'm not the only one confused as to what the situation is that means you cannot eat properly At home.

UrethraFranklin1 · 24/07/2015 21:21

I don't see a problem with pointing out the difference between "I won't be paid until september" and "I have no idea what I will be paid between now and september" since they are two very different prospects.

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:24

Well fair enough uretha but feasibly I could have no hours between now and September and where money's concerned I tend to be worse case scenario :)

LIZS yes they are expensive but cookers and the like are more expensive and moving house is more expensive still, my living arrangements will out me so i won't go into detail if you don't mind. I always appreciate advice but it has to be helpful ie I can act on it!

OP posts:
UrethraFranklin1 · 24/07/2015 21:27

People aren't mind readers. If you say you have no cooker or microwave or fridge, people are obviously going to ask why not, and advise you to get one. You can pick up these things for nothing on freecycle and the like.

LIZS · 24/07/2015 21:28

Well that is up to you but there will be a limit to how much useful advice you can expect . If you are in a Hmo or tied accommodation you should still have basic kitchen facilities. If your work is seasonal and salaried maybe you could negotiate being paid in 12 monthly instalments.

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:29

I know they aren't mind readers, which is why I've tried to be clear; I don't have any cooking facilities.

OP posts:
UrethraFranklin1 · 24/07/2015 21:32

Don't have doesn't mean can't acquire though, does it? Hmm

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:33

Well I could acquire them but they'd be pretty useless as I wouldn't be able to use them!

OP posts:
woowoo22 · 24/07/2015 21:34

Do you have anything at all where you're living?

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:35

How do you mean woo? In terms of cooking - no! Just a kettle that I have access to.

OP posts:
LIZS · 24/07/2015 21:39

You couldn't use them ? Confused Are you being deliberately obtuse or do you have a genuine reason for being unable to cater for yourself. Even with a microwave you could do jacket spuds. A small fridge can store milk and dairy. Tinned soup, fish , pasta , rice etc doesn't need specific storage anyway.

ClashCityRocker · 24/07/2015 21:40

Probably a dumb question and something you've already thought of, but have you got any friends or family you can use to access cooking facilities?

Even boiling up a large pan of pasta which you can use for cold pasta salad...

At least you've got the twenty five hours in addition - but it must be worrying trying to plan without being sure of your income.

Can you pay travel in advance? I'm guessing not if you're on zero hours, you won't know when you need to travel.

willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:40

LIZS, honestly, seriously, why are you being so rude?

I can't use any sort of cooking facilities; I don't want to say why as its unusual and would put me (have been outed on here before) - do you suppose I am lying just to be awkward?

I don't have a fridge or a microwave; I don't have the money to buy them and I don't have anywhere to put them if they were given to me. Can you accept that please and stop being so horrible?

OP posts:
willowwaters · 24/07/2015 21:41

Yeah I do that sometimes clash with the pasta; I also have to shower at the leisure centre or at friends put it that way :) It's not easy.

OP posts:
UrethraFranklin1 · 24/07/2015 21:42

Why wouldn't you be able to use a microwave? Do you live in a tent with no electricity?
You're not making a lot of sense here. You say you won't be getting paid, but you probably will. You live somewhere where you can't cook or store food, even if you get free equipment.
What are you looking for here? YANBU for worrying about money, many of us do, but your life sounds rather chaotic and no-one can comment with odd and sparse details.

ClashCityRocker · 24/07/2015 21:42

I'm assuming op is living somewhere we she can't bring in her own electrics.

I've been in the same situation, it's pretty grim, and very difficult to feed yourself cheaply.

LIZS · 24/07/2015 21:42

Nuff said . I wasn't being rude. You are drip feeding and dismissive, not just to me but others too.
