We're going on Sunday. Any tips about trips, foods to try etc? Thanks.

went last year. A friend told me there would me no mosquito problem. We didn't take any 'precautions' and were bitten to shreds. It was (as is typical for us) the worst and wettest weather they'd had in around 20 years, so that might have been what the glut of mozzies was about.

The walls are fab but go early or as late as poss to avoid queues. Take plenty of water as it's a longish walk with LOTS of steps.

Lokrum is magically pretty (was used in Game Of Thrones.) Didn't visit any of the other islands, so don't know how it compares with the others.

We found the shops in Dubrovnik very samey. Loads seemed to have the same stock more or less.

Ok there are two bars that you access through the city walls. They are called Buza 1 and 2. Google them for exact location.

Mostar for the day is lovely too, beautiful bridge, you can still see the damage from the war too. The bridge was completly destroyed as an act of hostility during the war.
We also went to Medugorji when we went to Mostar , its a catholic pilgrimage site, massivly popular and is interesting to see even if you have no religious bone in your body.

Back to Dub, lovely restaurant called Arsenal, near the marina.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful place, you will love it :)

The huge cruise ships, often four or five, that arrive every day, usually leave by late afternoon so I second the advice to walk the walls early in the morning or early evening.

The old town is also quieter (relatively!) in the late afternoon or early evening too and the shops stay open late. It's great to sit outside a cafe at that time, have an Aperol spritz, or a beer, and just people watch. I can recommend the candied orange peel that is served as a snack on some cafe menus. Odd but it works. Olives are good too.

We stayed at lovely hotel, the More, a little out of town which had its own roped off swimming area with a deck and cave bar. You could jump straight in from the deck so didn't have to worry too much about the sea urchins. The hotel was on seven floors stretching down from the top of the hill to the sea.

Boat trips to the islands are good fun. Game of Thrones was being filmed while we were there and there were also GoT tours...

Away from the city walls there's a lot more local cafes and restaurants by the marina. much cheaper and more local traditional atmosphere and dishes.

"I have to say I found Dubrovnik pretty cheap for food and drink but then again I live in London, which makes anything look cheap in comparison!"

We live in South Yorkshire and found prices pretty much on a par to home, not cheap.

We stayed at the Hotel Lapad on the Lapad peninsula and were right opposite where the mahoosive cruise ships come in. Some of them looked like huge floating blocks of council flats. It was easy to get the bus into the old town as it stopped right outside the hotel.

You can walk across the peninsula where there is a small beach.
