My daughter is eight wonderful weeks old and getting on great. For the past few weeks, whenever we meet them, my husband's siblings make a specific enquiry after her welfare - is she watching telly yet.

To my mind, it's of course not - why would she at eight weeks? Naturally I don't say that but I do find it odd that that's the only developmental indicator they're interested in.

Would anyone else be surprised? To clarify, it's only a question, doesn't effect me in any way at all and it's not going to be any kind of an issue. Just wondering whether that's the norm? My family and friends would assume she's not watching telly so that's what I think is standard, but are we the ones out if step?

Very strange question!

We did not let ours watch TV my older child was 4 and started noticing at friends' houses that others watched TV then asked to do the same. However, we don't let them watch very much. Why would anyone think a baby should be watching TV? I am also baffled, OP.

"where do you buy clothes for twins? " Grin genius. I did actually lol...

It is a weird question op.

That said I have found it quite a relief that my 18 month old has taken an interest in telly recently... So not judging and all that.

One time when my girls were about 3 months old the HV was in and saw my DH speaking to them in his mother tongue. "Oh" said the HV, "are the twins bilingual?" Aye come back in 2 years maybe...

Having twins is a magnet for stupid comments too. "Are they identical?" If you have similar looking kids I can see it's a sensible question but when one has blonde hair and one brown? I even know someone who was asked that of boy-girl twins Confused

Weird. Are they big telly watchers?

My in-laws were obsessed with the fact that we didn't want DS to watch TV as a baby. Every time I saw PILs or SIL they would ask 'Is he still not watching TV?' They clearly thought I was weird/PFB about it.

Well I feel that the children watch too much. The children developed accents from the tv as toddlers which they find amusing and normal but which I find horrifying. To me, it not only shows too much tv but also too little interpersonal interaction. But since mine is eight weeks and I'm generally interested in child development, I can see that I may be taking an excessively strong line and I may find it getting fainter as time goes on. I don't want to end up eating my words and looking like an eejit.
