Not to know which problem to tackle first

I'm in a bit of a slump, but also at a crossroads and wanting to move myself forwards. I am a stone overweight (health wise-if i were considering looks probably at least two) pretty sure I'm addicted to caffeine and sugar, on antidepressants that had been working well but feeling snappy all the time, over anxious about my children and lacking motivation, not enjoying spending time with 3dc (last about to go to school), struggle to keep tidy and on top of things. I also don't exercise and my diet, beyond sugar and caffeine isn't great.

I absolutely know things need to change. But I'm going round in circles over which to change first without being an been grumpier mother in the process.

What small change would you make to start the ball rolling? I fear changing masses at once and it not being sustainable.

Op, if you switch to whole milk you'll need less sugar in coffee (former barista). 10 minutes of tidying g a day, ten minute extra walking every day. Cut the coke. Good luck!

Take fish oil (omega3) capsules. I see a therapist (which I also recommend) and she suggested taking them to help my mh. There are studies that show it helps, and it is a small change.

So...one coffee and one diet coke today (but before I had decided to stop!). No significant sugar-had a slice of birthday cake but that was "social" sugar! And hard boiled some eggs to use as snacks so that I'm getting more protein and less sugar.
Going to try having porridge tomorrow am.
And tidied downstairs when dh took kids out, and also tried to use urge to look at phone as a signal to do something small with one of the dc.

Small steps, but felt a bit more in control. Going to bed now so I can try not to be too tired tomorrow.

Will get some vitamins and omega 3-good tip.

Oh do you, trashie? I'm starting again today so I need to find that one quickly, thanks!

So...day 1 and I had porridge for breakfast which kept the sugar cravings away. Have worked out that for now, water bottles scratch the "take something cold and refreshing out of the fridge" itch. Had coffee mid afternoon and hoping to stay off sugary stuff for rest of day, after ice cream with family on day out. Not too bad.

You're doing well op. I often find if I am low on iron i crave caffeine and sugar (more than usual). I second the vitamins + iron and drink more water if you can. Keep going, good luck

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 21/07/2015 15:54

Great steps op! Water from the fridge is really good.

Thanks! I know enough about addiction to know that the habits associated with the addiction are as tough to crack as the substance itself. Hard boiling eggs as I type so that I can have a snack to "unwrap"! Day one, one day at a time. But feel quite proud.

So...a week or so on and I've cracked the diet coke thing (had one on a journey but that's it) and have had good breakfast every day (poached eggs on toast, porridge or shredded wheat with banana). Eating fewer snacks too. Still having coffee, but can only drink one or at most two a day unlike diet coke. Have started drinking a bit more water. Exercise to be addressed soon. Have also had a few early nights rather than have an evening but that's good too.
Breakfast is a big thing and I'm pretty proud.

Well done!

MillionToOneChances · 29/07/2015 18:20

Well done! I'm doing a similar thing with cutting sugar and I put a load of sweet things in my basket earlier then put it all back except the crisps because I don't want to get back on that roller coaster. If you can bear to reduce wheat that will help too, as it converts quickly to sugars when you digest it.
