To think 830 on a sunday

Is not the time to have scaffolding dismantled without first prewarning your neighbours?

My dc is feeling rotten and has been struggling to sleep this weekend but was actually sleeping in. Not any more they're not!

I wonder if they got a call about a new job last night and hotfooted it to the OP's neighbour early this morning to get it down and put it up somewhere new, thus not having to pay for storage.

That's my experience of scaffolders. And other experiences. We once had them call at 6.15am.

Eek! Shock

saoirse31 · 19/07/2015 12:52

yep saw that and I hope your dc is ok. However I still don't think 8.30 on a Sunday is unreasonable as a once off. I don't know what your dc illness is and hope it's something temporary but don't think u could expect neighbours to realise 8.30 is too early as it risks waking up child.

I had a similar issue with scaffolding being put our right opposite my home at 8am on a Sunday morning. As construction work is banned on a Sunday I called the council the next day. They said construction rules don't apply to scaffolding.Hmm

It's not going to kill anyone to be woken up early one day but it is not unreasonable to be distressed at building work and hollering and shouting at 8.30am on a Sunday.

Chucking things down happens all the time near me. It is dangerous and they don't close off the pavements.

I find it laughable that a poster defended scaffolders by saying they have to get up really early and cited their chivalrous ways.

Like fuck. Lots of other people including builders like my BIL who confirms that scaffolders are a special brand of neandterhals.

Scaffolders get away with anti-social and dangerous behaviour because they're cunts and are in and out quickly before any one can deal with them and it is very difficult to trace them.

I must be the only person who lives in a place where 8:30 isn't early, even on a weekend.

CarrotVan · 19/07/2015 20:18

Our scaffolders were lovely. Dad and daughter team, worked all weathers and got our scaffolding up between 9-10am on a Sunday (in the snow) and took it down at a similar time (torrential rain) so they could put it up on another site for builders to start on Monday. No swearing, no arsiness and asked if we'd like them to wash the mugs from the tea we made them

None of our neighbours were bothered

CalmYourselfTubbs · 19/07/2015 20:19

yeah, its a bit cheeky on a sunday i think.
i thought it was 11am for any major noises on sundays.

BackforGood · 19/07/2015 20:24

It would be a bit annoying, but it's one of those 'one off' things that's done now, so not worth getting het up about.
If your dc is poorly, and in bed, then they could equally well have been dozing at 3pm though as I was today I don't think you can expect other people's scaffolders to be aware of that. Your neighbours probably didn't arrange the time anyway - scaffolders usually just turn up and put up / take down when they are able, around other work.

Laloue23 · 19/07/2015 20:28

I'd rather they did it today when I had to get up and go to work than on Wednesday when I want a lie in...the world no longer stops for Sunday.

Whoop-de-do for you ouyve, but I like to have a bit of a lie-in.
