AIBU?

To ask for a ruling on what goes on top of a key lime pie?

Prompted by a shit version I bought in Waitrose yesterday, which is topped off with a vapid plasticky lime mousse and the actual lime filling is only about a centimetre thick. Rubbish.

I thought it was either naked, or had meringue topping. Having Wiki'd it, they say whipped cream?

Whipped cream! Definitely not meringue.

My fantasy key lime pie would have the very best quality fantasy vanilla ice cream with it.

Dream on.,

Key lime pies are made with key limes, not limes.

I'd top with whipped cream and maybe a lime slice, but I imagine it taste nice with meringue or whipped cream.

Ok so I didn't get to have another slice but can confirm that it's either whipped cream or that meringuey whipped fluffy stuff that Americans use (someone I'm sure will know what I mean!).

That whipped fluffy stuff Americans use would never go on a real Key Lime pie!

As someone living in Floruda and making Key Lime pie all the time it should be naked and served with a dollop of cream. It should not be green.

Key Lime are limes, just not the ones you buy in the store in the UK. Real ones are tiny and lemony green colored.

Never seen meringue on a key lime pie. It's more like a lemon tart rather than a lemon meringue pie and therefore naked. We had it in Florida and it was naked then.
