People who sit and shake their leg/s

Obviously I am not talking about people with neurological or physical conditions that make them have a tremor or shake.
I'm talking about people who sit and jiggle one or both legs.
There is a man say 2 seats away from me and all I can see is the constant juggle of his leg!! If he was sat next to me, my chair would shake and make me feel physically sick.

I do this all the time. My feet are never still. No idea why - I've always been like it!

travellinglighter · 18/07/2015 16:12

You’d hate me.

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 18/07/2015 17:17

Sorry people!! It was massively annoying me, but as I said, I wasn't getting at people who have disabilities (seen or unseen)!!!

I have AS traits and this is one of them. I jiggle my leg when I'm sitting down and when I'm standing up I rock from one foot to the other. It annoys people but I can't help it, especially when I'm stressed or have a lot of attention on me.

CrohnicallyAspie · 18/07/2015 20:55

No blue you said it wasn't aimed at people with conditions that make you tremor or shake. You said that you were referring to people who sit and jiggle their leg. Lots of us have explained that we jiggle because of our conditions.

Anyway, YANBU to be annoyed by it and come and vent on here, but just be aware that you don't know who is jiggling because of a disability and who isn't.

scarletforya · 18/07/2015 21:00

I do it.

It's not possible to not do it.

littlejohnnydory · 18/07/2015 21:02

I do it - restless legs. Sorry if it's annoying but it's not as bad as having restless legs, so YABU.

maz210 · 18/07/2015 21:15

I do this bit I'm a chronic pain sufferer with neuropathic pain down my left leg (nerve pain).

I used to jiggle my right leg automatically in response to the pain and one day another chronic pain sufferer told me why. Apparently if you jiggle the good leg it can disrupt the pain signals to the brain from the opposite leg. She'd been taught to do exactly the same to help with her pain.

I'm very sorry to anyone I've annoyed over the years with my leg jiggling ????

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 18/07/2015 21:43

I do, gets worse when I'm anxious or if my pins and needles are especially bad in my feet (caused by a med I take).

DH complains about the bed shaking at night.

Hulababy · 18/07/2015 21:48

I do this at times though usually only one leg. It is done subconsciously and I'm only aware of it if someone points it out.

It is far worse if I am nervous or anxious, and as someone who is naturally quite shy and introvert this can be often I'm afraid.

I guess it's no different to someone having a tic or a stutter in many ways.

Yabu to be bothered about if the man isn't say best to you and actually moving your seat.

Jellykat · 18/07/2015 21:57

While really not wishing to trivialize all the previous posters above with chronic pain ..

DS2 and 2 exes of mine do/ did the leg jiggling, they're all drummers, it's a bass pedal thing. Maybe the man is a drummer?

dodobookends · 18/07/2015 22:06

People with hypermobility are often constant fidgets, as they ache and get uncomfortable if they can't move about a lot - it's a recognised part of the condition. Both dh and dd are like it. Drives me round the bend.

ouryve · 18/07/2015 22:11

I do it. It's almost always neurological. I do it when I'm tired or when I'm thinking hard. This thread's put an urge to wriggle into my toes and a particular tense ache into my calves.

CharleyDavidson · 18/07/2015 22:36

I'm finding this extremely interesting.

I have had a hip condition (finally) diagnosed and along the way I was told that I was hypermobile so if there's a link that's interesting.

I'm not usually aching when I do it though. I just find it impossible to sit still.

MistressDeeCee · 19/07/2015 02:31

I used to do it. I had to actively stop myself as people started commenting...not in a nasty way really just in a do you know you are shaking your leg kind of way. Nothing to do with any condition...Id do it when I was sitting down thinking, especially when thinking about something I had to do quite urgently. It wouldnt bother me seeing anybody else do it, I think its quite common and anyway I can't think why it would worry me, a stranger doing it

FoulsomeAndMaggotwise · 19/07/2015 04:07

This winds me right up and I would never understand why people would do it, I never put it down to restless legs. I get that during pregnancy and it's absolutely awful, I couldn't bear to have it all the time.

So in conclusion - I've been educated! I'll be far more tolerant next time I encounter a leg jiggler.

RoboticSealpup · 19/07/2015 05:13

My DH does this, and a woman on his morning commute told him off about it the other week! Blush He's tall and large-built, so I can only imagine how annoying it must be for people sitting near him on the train. He doesn't know he's doing it but it's definitely nothing to with nerves as he's the least anxious person I know.
