About my cat?

I have a kitten he is 13 weeks old. I haven't had his injections yet (will do soon) and I want him to be an indoor cat.

My sister had two kittens and she lives next door and this morning has let her cats roam around the garden.

I'm being pressured to let my cat outside with her cats (they are all from the same litter) and I've said no but they are all making me feel guilty.

It's my cat and I don't want him outside, aibu to tell my family who is here to "back off"?

It's like I'm holding the cat hostage or something :/

A compromise works for us. Cat stayed in until she'd had all her jabs, and been chipped and spayed. Around 5 months. During that time she learnt her routine and to come when called. She is now allowed out only during daylight, and this time of year earlier than that, around 9-10pm. She used to spend all her time outside of the weather was good, but we moved around a month ago and she's mostly choosing to stay in despite having a cat flap.

I adopted an indoor cat about 18 months ago aged 11. He and his brother had never had never set foot outside because it was madly busy and they had no road sense.

They were very happy.

Now I have him he goes into my secure garden - he's wandered out and back in just now. That will go on until I close the door and go to bed. He could climb over the walls because despite his age, he's very agile. He just can't be bothered and likes to potter or sleep on a cushion.

In winter he didn't go out or ask to.

When the weather got nicer this year I took him for walks along a quiet pavement. He cannot be trusted out alone. He has no fear, no road sense and is incredibly friendly.

He doesn't need a harness. He walks in front of me and glances over his non-existent shoulders to check I'm following.

It takes about 30 minutes all-in-all and he comes when I call his name.

As a previous poster pointed out, I do feel like a bit of a prat standing about while he explores every single sodding basement time after time. As she said, we don't walk them; they walk us.

People like us, but I suspect they think I'm mad.

It's just started to rain and he's yowling at me to turn it off.

Update: it's raining quite hard and he's sitting comfortably on his blanket by the back door looking at it.

He is a happy little soul for years being a strictly indoor cat and for his new life being a semi outdoor one.
