To invest in a HUGE bed ...

SleepShake · 16/07/2015 07:43

Our toddler needs one of us two sleep with her. If we move her, she'll come back within an hour or so. This usually means we sleep in separate beds.

Now I'm thinking, instead of going on holiday this year, we should invest in one of those HUGE beds so at least I can sleep next to DH Smile

So what do you think?

I'm very tempted to remove all other furniture from our bedroom and buy a massive bed! We have DD still co sleeping and I'm pregnant! Our king is just not cutting it.

I want a new bed!

PersonalClown · 16/07/2015 09:55

Superking!!
A 5ft 10 Dp, 6ft me, 5ft 8 13 year old, a Staffy and a large Doodle can all easily fit in the bed without being too squashed.

Obviously only me and Dp sleep in it but I'm working on kicking DP out so I have it all to myself!!

nowahousewife · 16/07/2015 09:57

Definition for a super king if you can. Best thing ever when toddlers come crawling in in the middle of the night.

We got ours when I was pregnant with DD now 17. Would give up a lot of things before I gave up that bed!

Also a lot easier now days to get linen for it, when we got it all those years ago it was a bit specialist but now seems to be a standard size in most ranges.

MrsNuckyThompson · 16/07/2015 09:57

Our toddler only joins us if he wakes very early but even so we're contemplating an upgrade from king to superking!! Got for it - not sure I'd forego a holiday though...

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 16/07/2015 09:59

I agree - lashing out on a super king was one the great decisions we made. We've had five of us in there (DC v young and close in age)! It made co-sleeping with a baby much easier.

It's wonderful - go for it. You'll be glad every single night.

AuntieMaggie · 16/07/2015 10:04

We've got a super king - means things are a bit cramped in our room but definitely worth it. I still manage to get kicked out by 1 yr old ds though! And two duvets is DPs dream since we had that in Paris a few years ago

cocopops88 · 16/07/2015 10:10

Super king bed and a double duvet each in our house! Sleep so much better, and when DP chucks his duvet off, i no longer have to wake up cold and find it in the night, because i have my own!

Morloth · 16/07/2015 10:13

Yep.

We have a king plenty of room for 4 humans and a cat if necessary.

Is rare for DS1 to come to our room now, but he is always welcome.

HazelShade · 16/07/2015 10:13

We had a superking but have found even that too small for wriggly, co-sleeping DS (2.9), and now I'm pg with DC2. We've moved to having three single beds next to eachother (if you put them on mattress bases rather than beds they can stand straight next to eachother with no gap) and bespoke made sheet to cover all three. We do have a large bedroom though!

Also, I'd recommend single duvets - we've done that since before we had DS (it's the norm in Scandinavia where I come from anyway). Some people seem to think it's less 'romantic', but it's soooo much more comfortable!

nowahousewife · 16/07/2015 10:33

Second the two duvets recommendation too. We share a super king duvet in summer but in winter use two doubles....so cosy and suits our different sleeping styles.

Caboodle · 16/07/2015 18:35

Get the bed. My 3 dcs are good at going to bed (now) but we still have the odd night they come in....and it is so much easier with a bigger bed

jayho · 16/07/2015 19:21

I'm a single parent and I've got a superking, it is the future

SunHighInTheSky · 16/07/2015 19:24

If I had my time again I would do this!

WhatKatyDidnt · 16/07/2015 19:40

We love our super king. Also have co sleeping toddler. We use ikea king size duvet and cover and it's plenty big enough.

TheMaw · 16/07/2015 19:44

Oh, definitely go for the superking! My friend has an emperor and I would sell my soul for one. We've got a king but it's nowhere near big enough.

vez123 · 16/07/2015 19:47

Loving my super king but if toddler DD joins DH moves to the couch as it's still cramped.

GoofyIsACow · 16/07/2015 19:50

Ikea do a triple bed, the single section splits off when you are ready, i considered it, ds's don't come in so much now though.

Definitely do it!

ecosln · 16/07/2015 19:53

Definitely super king, its marvellous.

One thing though... Invest in the mattress and if you can get one with double stitched seams at the side... I'm still sleeping on the edge when 2dcs are in bed and the mattress doesn't go all saggy and I don't roll out!

yongnian · 16/07/2015 19:55

Ditto super king, had one for 8 years..best investment ever...have a full size cot with rail off as side car too, and makes co-sleeping a doddle...can comfortably get nearly 10 yo dd in, in the mornings as well Grin

yongnian · 16/07/2015 19:58

Ps only thing I find is that cos ours is emporer rather than super king and can be tricky to find bedding that is true emporer rather than SK so have forked out a lot on extra deep sheets over the years but stil, worth it!
Also a bit spoilt whenever we go stay anywhere..great to come home to!

Sylviecat · 16/07/2015 20:01

We ended up investing in a super king and now our 2 dc's (2 and 4) come sneaking in every night. I don't even notice they're there til the morning! It is great. You can't put a price on some decent sleep.

circleskirt · 16/07/2015 20:07

The kids are long gone and our super king can be a bit lonely at times, if I wake in the night I can't tell if DH is there or not. The middle is sort of no-man's land, I can stretch an arm out and encounter nothing as he sleeps on the far edge. Would have been great when we had little ones though.

SleepShake · 16/07/2015 23:00

Thanks everyone! I'm looking into the emperor ... SmileGrin
