To be really worried about my dd2?

Sorry for the blatant post here for traffic. My dd2 is 5 next week. Last night she woke up and came into my room crying, which isn't too unusual if she's had a bad dream. She got into bed with me and fell asleep again straight away.

This morning she got up, went for a wee, then burst into tears. I found her sitting on the bathroom floor and she said she couldn't walk and her leg hurted. I asked her where and she pointed to the top of her thigh. Her legs were absolutely fine when she went to bed and as far as I know she hasn't had any injuries.

I kept her home today and all day she has been quite whingy and not walking properly, kind of limping and kind of walking like John Wayne. She's also been really tired and yawning a lot which isn't like her, she is like the Duracell bunny and impossible to wear out normally.

I've had to carry her up and down the stairs today as she says her leg hurts too much to do it herself.

We went to the supermarket and she sat in the trolley as she couldn't really walk very well, and kept saying she was cold, which is unlike her, normally she's really warm, but her skin felt really cold to touch.

My instincts tell me something is really wrong, and I wanted to take her to the doctors, but she got really distressed (she has an irrational fear of doctors), so I thought I'd wait until tomorrow and see how she is. To balance it out, she went for 2 fairly short rides on her scooter with no problems, and also went to her swimming lesson, though she looked really vacant and spaced out while she was there.

She's definitely not putting it on, she's been trying to walk normally because she doesn't want to go to the doctors but it's like her legs just aren't working the way they're supposed to.

I know this is quite a random set of symptoms but wondering if anyone has any idea what could be wrong? I'm definitely taking her to the docs tomorrow if she's no better. It's her 5th birthday party on Saturday and we're going to Thailand for a month on Tuesday so I'm really hoping it's nothing serious.

She's up and about but still not right. She's definitely walking better than she was yesterday though. I'm going to take her to the docs.

I am glad you are taking her in, if not for any other reason than you can rest your mind and enjoy your getaway if it doesn't require treatment, or start treating her if it is something that won't resolve on its own.

I won't play armchair paediatrician, but I can say that the most likely culprits are ones that will resolve on their own or with reasonably straightforward treatment.

Please keep us posted - thinking of you.

Hand foot and mouth perhaps? Usually can see some spots on those areas but they're often not very noticeable. My dd wouldn't walk when she had it. Often a fever, feeling fluey accompanies it. Seems to be a summer thing too.

Get her checked out ASAP. I am sure this is not serious but there is one possibility that springs to mind that IS serious....

Update - she has been running around the garden, doing handstands and cartwheels. Her walking is perhaps ever so slightly stiff but pretty much back to normal. I have a docs appointment for 4.40, is it worth still going or is it panic over? She is a lot chirpier today and not whinging or complaining about her leg.

Since you have the appointment for her, I would suggest you still take her - if for no other reason than to rest your mind and learn how to safely relieve her symptoms if they should come back.

So happy she is perking up.

Check for Vitamin D deficiency when you are at the GPs.

I think my worse case scenario was what you are thinking amothersplace but there are so many other possibilities

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 16/07/2015 18:17

You sound like a woman and child I've just seen in the doctors waiting room. Very big coincidence if not you!

Wheresthattoo · 17/07/2015 08:40

Did you take her to the doctors?

VulvaVoom · 20/07/2015 14:58

Hope all is OK
