Aibu to give my toddler take away for dinner?

Dominoes planned for tonight, would anyone judge me if my 18 month old had some too. I can't be bothered to cook or wash up extra pans.

We usually have a take away once a month, could be Indian, Chinese, fish and chips, pizza (but only Chinese and Indian where they don't use msg). Would it be unreasonable to give her some when we have it?

Not at all! Enjoy!

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 14/07/2015 13:54

Yeah.
Let her enjoy a treat with you, it's not every night.
Some fresh fruit for pudding, reasonable meal.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 14/07/2015 13:54

I wouldn't care less, so long as it's not pizza every night. That would be weird.

An 18 month old isn't going to eat more than two fingers of pizza I wouldn't have thought, and as long as you can supplement with some fresh veg sticks then I couldn't get my judgey pants in a twist about it tbh.

Nabootique · 14/07/2015 13:55

I don't think YABU at all. I like to cook for DD as much as possible, but sometimes I just can't due to time or what have you. She views take away like a bit of a treat. It's fine.

YANBU

Spartans · 14/07/2015 13:59

Yanbu. Dh is a chef and loves cooking at home....but everyone wants a night off. As a one off nothing bad is going to happen. I wouldn't even supplement with veg sticks. I would just make sure they had a healthy lunch and snacks.

LokiBear · 14/07/2015 13:59

My only concern would be: would an 18 month old eat it? My dd wouldn't have (she's a strange child Grin) I'd agree with the poster above about putting some cucumber/ carrot on the side.

Scotinoz · 14/07/2015 14:01

Oh god no! Definitely not unreasonable! My 19month hoovered down fish and chips from the chipper over the weekend. Totally fine Smile

FeelingSmurfy · 14/07/2015 14:01

Takeaway isn't ideal because often very salty but the amount she will eat shouldn't be too bad, maybe chop an apple up to go with it?

AmandaTanen · 14/07/2015 14:01

I would do it, my DD preferred the chicken strips to pizza and I made up a wee salad to go with it.

Sternin · 14/07/2015 14:01

YANBU (except in coming on here and making me crave Dominoes). I will probably do the same next time we have one, and DD is only just 1! I'd just keep an eye on the salt levels.

roseteapot101 · 14/07/2015 14:16

if your feeling guilty just put some veggie fingers on her plate next to the pizza a once a month treat is good. Growing up, kids should learn such food should only be a once a month treat.

lol on Christmas day when my daughter was 18 months i made her a naughty surprise for breakfast

milkshake
some smoked bacon
baked beans
fried egg
a hash brown
a sausage

just little bits of a english breakfast.I placed her in her high chair with just a nappy on and presented her table with all these treats.just let her go nuts so funny

Notso · 14/07/2015 14:27

Blush roseteapot101 my kids wouldn't call that a naughty surprise, they'd call it Sunday!

Littlebigcat · 14/07/2015 14:28

YANBU. As an occasional thing it's fine. Though be warned, whenever anyone comes to the door our DS (2.5) gets very excited and starts shouting "pizza". He's had dominos a total of 3 times ever Grin

Welshmaenad · 14/07/2015 14:36

Absolutely fine as an occasional treat. My two have been having takeaways with us from when they were one-ish. DS loved slurping chow mein noodles and DD has always loved curry and could be found stealing onion bhajis from a very young age!

lynniep · 14/07/2015 14:38

I think that's unanimous then!

leedy · 14/07/2015 14:38

Totally fine, as long as you're not having it every night. Both my kids love curry!

CatsCantTwerk · 14/07/2015 14:40

Notso My dc would call that Sunday too Grin

Op it is totally fine.

ArriettyMatilda · 14/07/2015 14:44

Brilliant I had a suspicion I was not being unreasonable but you have all confirmed it! We've done it about 4 times in the past few months, Indian was not a hit and dd mostly had yogurt and nan bread but noodles from the Chinese were ok. Dd probably wouldn't eat the veg sticks, she has always refused pepper, she spits out raw carrot and has gone off cucumber (I do keep giving it all to her but since I won't need to prepare any dinner I'd rather not make extra work for it then to be thrown on the floor).

Today she has eaten toast, orange, rice cake, grapes, avocado, sweetcorn and houmous, but all small amounts (e.g not even half a slice of toast, 3 grapes etc). I guess there will be some veg, protein and fat in the pizza along with the carbs. Maybe we'll give the chicken strips a go!

YANBU! My DD2 occasionally has chips (without extra salt), we just make sure she has some veg with them, sometimes a quorn sausage too and has fruit for pudding. My DB&SIL would throw a fit though, they said Dsis was giving her youngest (of 3, 18 months) 'junk food' because he's allowed pizza and brioche when his big brothers have it.

TravellingToad · 14/07/2015 14:52

I'm the first to get my judgy pants in a twist but even I couldn't get excited about this as a one in a while meal. Enjoy!
