to put this Kate-a-like doc on the cover who will be working with Wills?

I mean I am a Republican and a DM hater, I shouldn't have looked, call it self-harm, but what a weird publication. One minute celebrating Kate at the baby's Christening and her bounced back figure blah blah blah Ra Ra Ra.
And then they put this copterdoc on the cover saying coooeeee look who your husband is going to be working with COOOEEEEE.
I have to stop looking at that website, no one to blame but myself.

I don't read the mail, or ever follow their links (click bait). I do follow Daily Mail Comments (@BestOfTheMail) on Twitter, and am off the opinion Mail readers were not hugged enough as children

FunnyCatVideo · 14/07/2015 12:21

"OF" - I know!

gamerchick · 14/07/2015 12:22

I can't read it anymore.. All the ads sprint towards you like starving fleas when you open a door. My phone can't cope Hmm

sugar21 · 14/07/2015 12:22

Don't like it don't read it simples

fortyfide · 14/07/2015 12:25

Yes the DLY MAIL is very unfair across the board. Well produced but no real conscience or moral view

slug · 14/07/2015 12:27

I've said it before and I'll say it again. One of the major reasons the daily mail is so widely read is it has a reading age of 9. (The Sun's is 7)

Just think that through for a moment. In order to comprehend the writing in the daily mail you need to have the same reading and comprehension skills as a 9 year old. It's analysis, at best, is aimed at children just hitting secondary school. This is why the it's coverage of complex issues, e.g. the current Greek situation is limited to "Greeks don't pay their taxes" and doesn't include the sort of nuance or analysis you get in papers with a higher reading age like the broadsheets. You won't for example get Yanis Varoufakis giving an interview to the DM as the arguments he presents are just a bit too nuanced and complex for the readership.

That's not to say that people who read the DM have a reading age of 9, many no doubt have a much higher one. But in order to read the paper you don't have to engage the higher reasoning skills that you would have to in one of the more intellectual broadsheets.

ComposHatComesBack · 14/07/2015 12:27

Daily Mail is a knicker sniffing, reactionary shit sheet?

True, but hardly an original observation.

nigelslaterfan · 14/07/2015 12:28

I don't think it tells the truth, I think it incites division and hatred.

I get drawn to the slab nonsense because it is diverting and a bit addictive.

But is also so cruel. Those pictures of the actor who plays Henry VIII in the Tudors when he was drunk in the street. They shouldn't have been printed. How can they not see they are part of that man's problem? Jonathan something.

Compos, of course it isn't original! But neither is human prejudice, cruelty, division etc.

I want to stop reading it and this thread is helping me put my hands in the air and walk away.

I think that the Daily Mail website is:

-Free
-Easy to navigate
-Well presented (in terms of layout)
-Sometimes funny and interesting
-Unfortunately contains some hateful/stirring/pointless/badly written articles

No other newspaper website can match the above, even with the negative point (because users can ignore these articles). Hence loads of people read Mail Online, far more than the number who would buy the paper version. Until another newspaper can match the offering for free, people will read Mail Online. I read it! But would never buy the paper.

Yes, the Kate/doctor comparison is absolute gutter journalism. But there is no alternative.

FineDamBeaver · 14/07/2015 12:36

We all love to feel outraged because it makes us feel we're part of a superior group. Outrage is the currency of the DM. People look at the DM in order to have something to feel outraged about, normally in one of two ways. 1) You can be outraged about "benefit scroungers", along with the messages of the paper. 2) You can be outraged by the morals of the paper itself (as is more often the case on MN).

But whatever your style of outrage, it has the same effect - you're increasing their readership. Please just stop doing it. Every click lines the bastards' pockets.

Fleecyleesy · 14/07/2015 12:37

And I just did that quiz. I am HATED Grin.

paulapompom · 14/07/2015 12:40

Just looked at the daily star website -pigeons are being put on the pill
an article on the top 10 female bodybuilders
woman attacks partner with dildo after argument over dress
what's not to love? And no I don't work for them Grin

happybubblebrain · 14/07/2015 12:41

I read it once when I was 17, I was horrified. I haven't dared since. It sounds like it hasn't improved in 25 years.

I always judge DM readers as being sexist, racist, small-minded and thick.

WorktoLive · 14/07/2015 12:42

I am also hated on the quiz despite answering no to a lot of the questions (I suspect every woman is).

However, I didn't understand question 8 Michael Gove?

Is it 'are you Michael Gove', or is it 'Michael Gove, would you Wink?' or something else Confused.

WorktoLive · 14/07/2015 12:44

What always baffles me about the DM is that, despite how much it despises women, if you watch who buys the DM, it is almost entirely 50+ women Confused.

Who on earth buys a paper half of which is filled with 'how shit are you' articles?

longtimelurker101 · 14/07/2015 12:46

Scatteroflight, you obviously get your facts from the mail so logical argument against you is pointless.

For anyone else they realise that the agenda the mail set are for the benefit of a chosen few and they whip up the hysterical uneducated masses for their own ends.

sebsmummy1 · 14/07/2015 12:47

I often think of this place as vile and hateful too and yet I seem to skip between Mumsnet and the DM website every day. I can only assume I am a sucker for punishment or else both sites have some morbid fascination that ensures it's readers return.

CheeseBored · 14/07/2015 12:50

hate it, but also can't help but look Blush it is completely obsessed with "make up free" women. Urgh.

OTheHugeManatee · 14/07/2015 13:59

This thread has reminded me of this excellent recent article on the true meaning of hating the Daily Mail Grin

Dunkyourcustardcream · 14/07/2015 14:40

Totally agree. Misogynistic shite.

BishopBrennansArse · 14/07/2015 14:43
