I just don't get it, you will get it super hot and can't drink until its cooled down. Won't it taste funny? Waste of energy IMO.

Rightly or wrongly, the question has been posed as an AIBU. Thus it invites responses which agree or disagree.

Soup, yes, absolutely. There's a difference, though, between coming on to agree or disagree – ie to engage –and coming on to sneer and say 'God, who cares?'

If you don't care, don't comment. Read another thread. That's what I was saying.

I once stayed with people who didn't have a kettle. If you wanted a cup of coffee or tea, you put a mug of water in the microwave for 2 minutes 20 seconds, then put in the teabag or the coffee, and the milk.

I make my coffee in a coffee maker - which is very convenient, and I like having a jug full of hot coffee to top my mug up later on - but it doesn't make the coffee hot enough to cope with the amount of milk I like - so I nuke the milk first - I do love it when the coffee is really hot.

I wouldn't ever nuke it when it had gone cold - I think that makes it taste funny - but I am happy drinking cold coffee, and the only tea I drink (a licorice and spice herbal tea) tastes just as good cold as hot, so I still get to finish my drink, even if it has gone cold.

I do it if drinking real coffee as it is otherwise not hot enough to drink. Or I might warm up and froth milk if I can be arsed. I might do it if there is tea in the pot that is not hot anymore rather than go to the bother of making another pot. Doesn't make it taste funny though.

All of you who are making cups of tea in mugs whether the milk goes in first or last are doing it wrong - tea is made in a teapot. Because then it tastes better and you get to have a second cup without having to make any more.

I have never heard of that before. I drink millions of cups of tea a day and as an expert can safely say "what's the flippin point?"

My in-laws heat up tea that has gone cold in the microwave so as not to waste it. I have also had a lesson from my FIL on how to make multiple cups of tea with just one tea bag.

People who make tea from scratch in the microwave deserve a good talking to.

Heating up milk for coffee - yes, that is allowed.

I would only every heat up black tea in a microwave if it's gone cold.

I like strong coffee with lots of milk. Any milk that goes into fresh coffee has to be heated first for me, otherwise it just doesn't taste right. I use a Gaggia, which is quite old and doesn't quite heat up the espresso coffee to the temperature I would like, so, yes, I'm one of the people who makes a fresh cup of COFFEE and then zaps it in the microwave. It doesn't have to cool down too much before I can drink it. Hot drinks must be hot, not tepid.
