to go to the doctors about being tired?

This seems petty, but it's been going on for a few years.

I'm exhausted. All the time. No matter how much sleep I get or vitamins etc I take.

I've given up hobbies and I'm getting sick of seeing all the things people get up to at the weekends on facebook, while I'm sat at home, on facebook...

I was like this at first years ago when I was tired all the time, flaking out on the sofa, no energy at all despite being very healthy and active.

Eventually DP persuaded me to go, they did all the blood tests, thyroid, anaemia, diabetes etc. All clear. Then I had chest X ray, more in depth blood tests (lupus and other stuff), still all clear. I was eventually diagnosed with ME/CFS and 13 years later I still have it.

It's not trivial, go and get checked. There are many things it could be that are easily treatable.

I would go.I went two years ago feeling exhausted all the time and was diagnosed with diabetes after blood tests.I'm not saying that is what u have as there r many things it could be caused by.Jus saying best to get checked out.x

colouringinagain · 11/07/2015 23:04

definitely go to the Gp OP. I was feeling absolutely exhausted and turns out I have low ferritin (iron stores). 3 weeks in on iron tablets and I already feel a bit better.

tilliebob · 11/07/2015 23:06

I just had six vials of blood taken and the only thing any of them showed up was anaemia. Not severe but doc thinks along with my other issues what's enough to be causing my current exhaustion/lack of appetite etc. I also put off going to the docs for ages, but when you are in bed before even your 7 year old at night, something is far from right. Hope you get some answers soon Thanks

SingingSamosa hi, i have colitis too and a slight under active thryroid which is treated with 25g of levothyroxine everyday, but i'm still extremely tired everyday its a struggle to get out of bed in the mornings, also got diagnosed with depression linked to the thyroid issues and also on a very long waiting list for IVF, so was wondering whether those blood tests you had were standard or would i have to ask for them, as it looks like my IVF treatment should start in September or October and i would like everything to be prefect!

CalmYoBadSelf · 11/07/2015 23:33

My DD is like this, constantly exhausted to the point she misses things, has to take naps, etc yet has had blood tests several times with all apparently normal. So frustrating yet relieved at the same time

Hope you get sorted out

JustkeepswimmingNemo · 12/07/2015 00:55

I went to the doctors with extreme tiredness. Got bloods taken and I have a B12 deficiency and an overactive thyroid! I have to get B12 injections every 3 months for the rest of my life. My body won't absorb b12 tablets. So it might be a good idea to speak to your doctor

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 12/07/2015 01:38

I went to the GP and ended up with a CPAP machine - turned out I was "dying" in my sleep 50+ times a night Shock
A friend of mine had similar symptoms to me, but it turned out she had rickets (!) and severe iron deficiency.
You need the doc to work out what is causing it, it could be loads of things...

daisychain01 · 12/07/2015 03:03

How is your blood pressure and heart rate, OP?

Low BP could be causing your fatigue

Lonecatwithkitten · 12/07/2015 07:53

On three occasions I have gone to the doctors with bone crushing exhaustion each time they have found a cause. I have now three immune mediated conditions all of which unmediated leave me exhausted. I rattle nicely now and get my regular shots.

Lweji · 12/07/2015 07:58

Actually, I'd stop taking vitamins now. You CAN overdose on them.

And see the gp and keep bugging them until it's sorted or improved enough.

There are many possible causes for your fatigue and there is no reason why you shouldn't address it.

Dowser · 12/07/2015 10:45

I went when throughout the winter I just felt exhausted and drained.

Had blood tests done about 8 weeks ago. I was found to have extremely healthy blood.

I got anti depressants :-(

Been a bit better since summer arrived but dreading winter returning. I get two winter holidays in the sun every ear and top up in the winter with vit d3

I had t3 and t4 tests dome and were told they were fine.

So, what was/is wrong with me?

Lweji · 12/07/2015 10:51

Dowser, winter depression is a known condition.
You can try to get more light, go out more during the day, expose your skin, or even take vit D.

Melatonin may also help. So, I'd talk with the doctor about it and specifically mention the association between winter and how you were feeling.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/07/2015 10:54

It's not petty at all. There's a number of things it could be.
It could be an iron deficiency
Thiroid issues
ME
Diabetes.
FX it is nothing serious but you need to get it seen to

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/07/2015 10:57

I'm no Doctor but if you say it has been going on for a few years. I think Diabetes would have reared it's head by now.
If I had to guess which I'm not going to I would say an iron deficiency

Corabell · 12/07/2015 11:09

The interpretation of thyroid tests ( tsh and t4) is highly problematic. A person's blood results can be in the normal range but far from optimum.

It's worth doing some reading and checking your exact results yourself as you may well be hypothyroid but just within the normal range. The same goes for b12/ ferritin/ vit d results.

coffeeisnectar · 12/07/2015 11:21

I've just been diagnosed with folate anaemia and am now taking folic acid as I was so tired all the time.

Stop taking all the supplements and go and ask for a full set of bloods to be done.

CakeLady1 · 12/07/2015 11:40

If you don't have intrinsic factor, you can eat b12 all day long and none will get absorbed through your gut lining.
This is a typical side effect of coeliac disease, which is autoimmune - in short, it causes changes in your gut lining so it can't absorb nutrients properly: fewer nutrients = less energy & anaemia. Simple blood test will let you know if you have the antibodies that indicate this.

Dowser · 12/07/2015 23:19

I take Melatonin. One 3 g tablet every night. I take vit d3 supplements and oh bought me a sad lamp which helped.

Dreading this winter.

workadurka · 12/07/2015 23:25

Go, I felt knackered for months. Had v low iron levels. High St supplements won't touch anaemia.

answersonapostcardplease · 12/07/2015 23:29

Op , I'm the same. I've had a load of tests, gp said it might be wheat intolerence or im just tired. Hmm

I'm going to reduce my ads after the holidays to see if that helps.

Lweji · 12/07/2015 23:39

Dowser
It sounds like you'd be better somewhere sunnier. But hopefully you will feel better by the end of Summer and the treatment will make a difference.

Try to think of it positively. It may actually help.

CrystalSkull · 12/07/2015 23:45

I'm not sure telling my story would be helpful here as my condition is incredibly rare. What I would say is this: Try to articulate your symptoms as clearly as you can (are you physically tired? mentally tired? sleepy? lethargic? what?); and push for further tests/referrals if you aren't getting anywhere. Good luck.
