to think it's not possible to give up sugar

I have heard people suggest this from time to time. It's not possible with DCs, is it?

We've given up most cereal, but porridge has to have sugar or some sugar substitute.

Stewed fruit can't be fine without sugar.

Home baking, absolute no-no.

How dull would life be? I would probably overdose on salt instead...

God I loved that programme Smile

The decade where crisps and fizzy drinks arrived was a real eye opener.

It's also the combining processed carbs with other food groups that causes the over eating. Eg if you eat say just pork (fat) or just potatoes ( carbs) or just chocolate ( processed combination of fat and carbs) you will feel full after consuming less calories with either of the first 2 than with the combination. And more importantly if you ate just the potatoes to the point of feeling full, you'd have sufficient energy to exercise. With the pork you'd feel more sloth like and have less energy so less likely to be motivated to exercise, and with the third you'd feel sick before you felt full.

I'm saying Mide that refined carbohydrates have a bigger part to play than is currently acknowledged. And that it's not just about calories, it's a lot more complicated than that. The hormones in the body drive appetite and the feelings of fullness, carbohydrates drive the insulin levels in your body and in turn the insulin is the hormone that controls fat storage. People on lower incomes tend to be more overweight - carbs are cheap and easy to eat. Why do wealthier people tend to be thinner? Low fat high carb is not the right answer, it is a fad that has been promoted for over 40 years and people are still getting fatter but the change4life programme continue to promote it....eventually the message will change but it takes a long time for that to happen - a u turn is a hard thing to swallow from a PR point of view.
