to think the mantra "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is just bollocks?

I am nbu, am I?

I get up at 7am most days (8 or 8.30 at the weekends) and never feel a pang of hunger before 10.30/11.

If I were to eat breakfast I would be forcing myself to eat when I'm not hungry.

Since I am quite overweight that would seem to me to be a very unwise thing to do.

Helena, that's interesting. I know that some people do have an urgent need to eat soon after waking. The thought of eating breakfast makes me feel nauseous. Perhaps that needs looking at.

I've always felt 'odd' because I've never had that, not even as a kid, and always felt 'forced' into it. I think my 'hunger switch' is a bit faulty sometimes because if I don't eat for hours - and then miss a meal that I would normally eat - I stop being hungry for it at all and won't catch up. I was in hospital recently for a week and just stopped eating completely as my routine was knocked out.

Normally, I may or may not eat lunch depending on what I'm doing but if I eat, it's a normal amount and pretty healthy. Dinnertime is my meal of the day really, yesterday I had a delicious (if I say so myself) cheese and parsley omelette, 3 eggs, substantial, with leaves and tomatoes.

Lying I also stop being hungry if I miss dinner e.g. if I'm back late and can't be arsed to cook, I'll be happy with a piece of toast. My H never did understand this.

I think overall, it balances out for me - at least I know I have weighed the same all my adult life.

Stealth, the afternoon shift twice a week! My eating habits may be somewhat sensible but sleeping habits are poor. Peri menopause and insomnia give me sleep in little snippets :( ....

I started eating breakfast when I got pregnant with my first, now I can't go without it. I agree about the kick starting eating though. I find if I have something like pancakes for breakfast or weetabix I'm not hungry for ages but cheerios, toast, any meat like sausage or bacon and I'm starving by 10:30 and desperate for chocolate.

My parents have never been breakfasf eaters and my mom would exist on one huge meal a day in the evenings, she's fit and well. It's all about what suits your body and what you feel most efficient running on. My breakfast used to be fags and diet coke while I did my hair and makeup, glorious days!
