This is the second time I've tried it and after 3 days I'm still wanting to set to my foof with wire wool. And I've been using the cream too.

Anyone else found this or is my fanjo just being fucking difficult.

what is the difference between internal cream and a pessary?

Pipbin · 07/07/2015 21:57

Now the clinic is only a little way from my work but I think the mum of one of the children I teach works there!

I'm 40 as well, won't the clinic just look at me funny?

TinyManticore · 07/07/2015 21:58

Pessary is a tablet that dissolves rather messily, the cream is in a kind of syringe thing.

hazeyjane · 07/07/2015 22:01

Ah ok, I assumed the pessary was the same ingredients as the cream, but in tablet form, so did the same job.

gamerchick · 07/07/2015 22:01

No the clinic won't look at you in any funny way Confused

It's their job, they look at loads of sexual organs every day. You go to a dentist for your teeth don't you? They really know their stuff and ta a hell of a lot quicker than going through a gp because they diagnose and treat there and then.

gamerchick · 07/07/2015 22:02

Plus they'll be able to tell you if there is thrush there and then as well.

Pipbin · 07/07/2015 22:03

Well I've looked it up and the clinic has walk in appointments. If I can get off work early then I'll go tomorrow.

Friend of mine went when her gp could not sort her. They were brilliant.

I am pretty sure she was over 40 at the time Hmm, long time married, one partner.

cheerfullady · 07/07/2015 22:07

I went to a sexual health clinic on the suggestion of my doctor for almost identical problem. I was worried about it too but they were so lovely, took various swabs and sent me away with various creams (free!) including a local anaesthetic for when it got really painful. Mine was inflammation caused by persistant thrush infections, so even once the thrush had gone, the inflammation hadn't. Honestly, go to the clinic!

gamerchick · 07/07/2015 22:08

Glad to hear it OP. Honestly it's fine, they're really nice.

EarSlaps · 07/07/2015 22:11

I thought for years that I had chronic thrush. No tablet or cream would touch it.

Turns out I have lichen sclerosis. I need very strong steroid creams every now and then to feel 'normal' down there.

Makes me weep when I think what I spent on thrush treatment!

AnyFucker · 07/07/2015 22:13

I am 50 ish and have used their services recently. I found them to be knowledgeable, professional and efficient. No funny stares in the waiting room. Avoid the teen times (some clinics have special sessions for the schoolies between 3 and 4pm for example).

There is no communication with your gp is you don't want it, and they will give you the full screen efficiently and all for free. What's not to like ?

DoTheDuckFace · 07/07/2015 22:26

Oh I had the cream once too, with little cardboard syringes that you load it into. I had a terrible time with it when I was breastfeeding and it has kept coming back since.
Runs off to google lichen sclerosis!

VixxFace · 07/07/2015 22:27

Pessary is the best thing.

eggyface · 08/07/2015 00:09

I find the cream is rubbish pessary better and oral best of all. DP has to take it at the same time. also wash ALL YOUR PANTS AT MORE THAN 70 DEGREES

GinAndSonic · 08/07/2015 00:20

Anyone had diarrhea after taking the capsule? How long did that last? Not sure if my dodgy tummy is a side effect of the capsule or some sort of bug Sad

snowglobemouse · 08/07/2015 01:15

yoghurt on a tampon? maybe? worked for flatmate bjt maybe a fluke!

GREYCROW · 08/07/2015 03:18

Bv... Took a year of UTI and thrush diagnoses by GP.

So many antibiotics but not feeling better after. It got to the stage where I was so sore and inflamed I could barely walk.

I thought I must have an STD so visited the local clinic, lovely doctor, tested for everything and treated for BV with metronidazole. Sick as a dog for a week but cured it all. Everything else was fine.

I'm now only using Lactydyl wash and have balance activ pessaries if I feel sore.

Pipbin · 08/07/2015 06:21

Where does BV come from though? I've only been with DH.

Also, in the last two years I've had three rounds of IVF and one miscarriage. Enough health professionals have been knocking around my fanjo to spot anything completely untoward.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 08/07/2015 06:37

BV is not a sexually transmitted infection, but having sex makes the conditions for it to occur more likely.... see here

it's also very common and HCP's would not normally notice it straight off

BIWI · 08/07/2015 07:03

Ironically, antiobiotics can make thrush worse - because they kill all the gut flora, including the good bacteria. This creates an environment where Candida Albicans can overgrow, and cause thrush. Taking a good probiotic can help to re-populate the gut with good bacteria. (A decent health food shop will sell them, in the chiller cabinet. Avoid things like Yakult and go for a proper one, like acidophilus)

Other things that encourage it are hormonal - I used to get thrush regularly just before my period (one of the great, great joys about being through the menopause!) - and your diet. A diet that includes too much sugar is something that Candida loves.

If you're getting it regularly, you may want to consider an anti-Candida diet. It's really, really tough, but it does help enormously. Anti-Candida diet

GREYCROW · 10/07/2015 17:46

It's just an imbalance of flora, lots of things can cause it and it's easily treated once identified.
