You people never heard of earplugs? Marvellous inventions, I can never understand why people moan about night/morning noise when everyone knows about the existence of earplugs.

Have you tried getting a 3 year old to wear earplugs?

CantAffordtoLive · 07/07/2015 22:00

YABVU You should be up at the crack of dawn and go to bed when it is dark. People have been doing that for thousands of years.

Seriously though, I moved down south and was woken by the bloody doves and pigeons for about six months, until I got used to them. Eventually I just didnt hear them any more.

No advice really, the dawn wakes me up, not the birds, so I use an eye mask. Although it is nice sometimes to get up really early and have a coffee in the garden :)

Ha ha, I'm profoundly deaf so I, blissfully, hear nothing at night. However, I have a cochlear implant that is about 18 months old and one evening I had all the windows open and this noise was driving me crazy and I just couldn't figure out what it was....I went into the garden and soon spotted this blackbird on the roof of the house!!

Earplugs

NewFlipFlops · 07/07/2015 22:11

I love them - if I have a sleepless night the dawn chorus always puts me to sleep.

yummumto3girls · 07/07/2015 22:14

We have cockerels at both neighbours either side of us.....????

yummumto3girls · 07/07/2015 22:16

Sorry don't know what's with the ?? It was supposed to be an angry face (not very good at this)!

Oldraver · 07/07/2015 22:27

I love the birds but do wish they would STFU. The blackbird is very loud and not very tunefull, sort of disjointed. We've had jackdaws turn up this week, one note wonders. The heat seems to of calmed the pigeons down from chasing each other up and down our roof coo-ing shagging

We also have a squawky peacock somewhere

ladybird69 · 07/07/2015 22:34

Sorry id love to post video clip but don't know how to Hmm my ginger boy is a right tough nut he keeps the neighbour mice population down single handedly but I think magpie won the face off!

MiddleAgedandConfused · 07/07/2015 22:55

You can buy fake plastic Hawks online and put one on your window ledge. Works well as long as you shuffle its position regularly.

YANBU and this is why i hate summer, in Scotland its dark for around 10 minutes at night and the birds go on and on and on!
But the noise of the cows and sheep sometimes drown them out…roll on September.

Canyouforgiveher · 08/07/2015 00:44

I hate birds. hate them. There is an entire extended family nesting outside my window who start up every morning at around 4.30 am and another large contingent under the awning on the back deck where they crap all over the deck.

I wish I had the balls to actually shoot them (and not with a water pistol) but I don't.

There is a possibly apocryphal story of a roof in Co. Kerry on which the owner had written in paint "Feck Off Crows"

cruikshank · 08/07/2015 00:50

I love the birds. Their music is so complex - I listen to it and try to hear patterns etc, and it's much more clever than anything we can come up with. Also, little tiny multiple head movements, all risky and daring. And they can fly! I have always wanted to be able to fly - admit it, aren't your favourite dreams the ones where you are flying? But they just do it, no fuss, no drama. Birds rock, big time.

ladybird69 · 08/07/2015 05:52

LOVE birds but that bloody magpie has started again. Sooper soaker!!!!!

ladybird69 · 08/07/2015 05:53

I live at the bottom of a cul-de-sac in the country. My house backs on to a main road. It's a quiet main road and unusual to hear much after about ten at night. This week however, they're resurfacing the road, all night, every night for a few nights. Aaaarghhh!
