I have a hole in the bottom of my Gucci pumps from putting a fag out Grin

Smoking rocks and I miss it

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 06/07/2015 17:03

Lucky bastards, I miss smoking Sad

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/07/2015 17:05

Actually my shoes were £14.99.

SoozeyHoozey · 06/07/2015 17:07

I bet you do the same when you see overweight people in the chippy.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/07/2015 17:07

And I'm currently having a cig outside work but I only get paid until 5.00 and will be here late in my cheap shoes - I do hope someone with a camera comes along

ChuffinAda · 06/07/2015 17:47

I hate walking through them. At our work they hang round the front door to the building, it's horrible

Icimoi · 06/07/2015 17:50

I'd like to take a picture of people walking past smokers with pursed lips feeling superior and then waft it in front of their supercilious faces.

Seriously, TheOriginal, have you ever actually seen that? Or are you making it up? IME most people in that situation simply ignore the smokers, unless they get the smoke blown at them in which case they're just trying to avoid it.

Happfeet2911 · 06/07/2015 18:01

The smoking shed at our local is much more fun and usually busier than the pub. Lots of non smokers come in because of this. Perhaps we are less sanctimonious and judgemental, just a thought!!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 06/07/2015 18:10

icimoi - no, I was just referring directly to the OP's reference to her own walking past smokers. The pursed lips on her part were my own inference based on her description of the encounter.

Where I used to work, smokers used to congregate on the roof garden. Great place for networking as you met people from every strata of every dept, unlike non-smokers who only met those in their immediate workplace.

I met my old schoolfriend's sister's best friend up there, which was miraculous as we came from a small rural village 150 miles away and this was in London. I even got a heads up on an upcoming vacancy, plus top interview tips, which led to a new job Grin.

The shoes and expressions are just a front.

CainInThePunting · 06/07/2015 19:09

I love my cigarettes, especially with a coffee. That one first thing in the morning is my favourite. My most often worn smoking shoes cost £80.

What I hate about being a smoker is the people who turn towards you and make a point of coughing in your face as they walk past.
I find that utterly disgusting as they don't cover their mouths.
So not classy.

MinesaBottle · 06/07/2015 19:15

Today I was wearing Chloe shoes while smoking (and doing everything else). Can't remember how much they cost as I've had them ages, sorry. More than twenty quid though. I was also having a good laugh with our HR director.

I once had my yearly review while having a fag with my boss (shoes: handmade Italian).

I'm only really a sad smoker if I can't have a quick fag break.

MagicalHamSandwich · 06/07/2015 19:25

I second this! I went from being my boss's latest junior to strategic asset and key player all while supplying him with a steady stream of smokes. On the downside: he's lovely and I suppose it's kind of my fault if he develops lung issues! Wink

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/07/2015 19:39

Derek £24.99?? We call that posh round here Grin

OhBigHairyBollocks · 06/07/2015 19:40

I am 13 weeks clear of smoking. God I miss it and I can't wait to have a fat and a pint once the baby is out!

OhBigHairyBollocks · 06/07/2015 19:41

Ahem, fag. Not in children's presence before you all flame me

SwedeDreams · 06/07/2015 19:47

Oh teal you have unleashed the wrath of the smokers- second only to the wrath of the dog people.

I miss smoking too. Silk cut and double espresso at 10am and I had impractical shoes.

You'd hate us then OP, teachers going out for smoke at lunch time, the horror!

GoStraightGoStraight · 06/07/2015 21:31

I was outside an airport the other week, it was really early in the morning and bloody freezing and I thought how sad and pathetic all the smokers looked. They weren't even enjoying their cigarettes in a relaxed way but sort of gulping them down as fast as possible before having to go inside. Even though they were clearly busy and on a tight schedule, it was obviously a huge priority that they get their nicotine fix first, before anything else could happen. It all looked a bit desperate and pathetic, they really are addicts and the need for nicotine every hour or more controls the timing of everything they do.

That's what I find sad.

When I was an easily led teen, smoking was rather cool. We all did it in bars, non stop, and with complete disregard for the odd non smoker among us.

I don't think I would take it up if I were a teen nowadays - it's definitely not a cool past time and looks more trouble than it's worth with all that standing outside in a sleazy huddle.

I feel a bit sorry for smokers - they can't do it anywhere now without pissing people off. Having said that, I can't stand cigarette smoke anywhere near me.

Kamden · 06/07/2015 21:39

So, is it alright if you wear expensive shoes but smoke?
