to consider paying $50 for a bra?

I really need a decent bra as I am hitting menopause and my boobs are sagging like anything, and I know I would look better with a different bra. Went to a specialist bra shop and found a wonderful one that looks great- only trouble is it costs $50! Would I be unreasonable to spend that on a bra?

Not IMO. I usually spend about $40 on mine, and they make all the difference in the world to how my clothes look, and they make me feel better with more support. I skimp out on a lot of things, but not bras.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2015 05:19

Not if you can afford it.

A good bra makes a huge difference to how you look and, as you may have found post-intervention, it can be hard to find some sizes from ordinary suppliers. But the difference a proper fit makes is huge.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 06/07/2015 05:26

Not at all. I regularly pay $100 CAD for mine.

No not at all. My everyday bras cost about £40 (not sure what the conversation rate to dollars are) and £50 for my sports bras. Totally worth it

mrsdavidbowie · 06/07/2015 06:47

Not at all.
I get my basic everyday T-shirt bras from Rigby and Pellar and they are about £75.
But fit like a dream.

WorktoLive · 06/07/2015 07:12

Don't know what sort of dollars you are talking about but whether it is US, Canadian, Australian or somewhere else it's comparable to UK prices if you are in the majority who are not catered for in supermarkets and other cheaper shops.

It's not fair but as long as you can afford it, YANBU.

Pengweng · 06/07/2015 07:15

I spend that on bras every time i buy one. Having 36H boobs isn't friendly on the purse. Lol.

If if fits well and is comfy then definitely buy it if you have the money.

DragonRojo · 06/07/2015 07:44

that's a very normal price for a good bra. Making a good bra is expensive because of all the different pieces that they contain.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 06/07/2015 07:56

I can never spend less than £35 on a bra unless it's in a sale (30/32 G/GG) which Google tells me is US$54 so nope, I can see no unreasonableness here. Apart from the unreasonable price of normal shaped bras and the unreasonable nature of the lingerie industry trying to convince us that we're all a 36C :-)

magimedi · 06/07/2015 07:58

Not at all. I spend about £35 - 40 on my bras.

If you can afford it go for it. I'd rather spend the money on a bra than a dress or shirt. A good bra will make you look so much better.

lushilaoshi · 06/07/2015 08:45

Absolutely not unreasonable. I have a weird bra size (28F!!) and have no choice but to spend on bras. It's absolutely worth it - no point having decent clothes if you don't have the scaffolding to prop them up with.

stripytees · 06/07/2015 08:49

Sounds fine to me too!
I have discovered that despite not being that nice to look at, nude/skin coloured bras are the best investment though - especially this time of year everything else is visible under thinner tops and dresses!

mrsdavidbowie · 06/07/2015 09:02

You just looking so much better in a bra that fits

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 06/07/2015 09:14

Don't think I've ever had one cheaper than that! 32G here, good bras cost money!

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 06/07/2015 09:19

I work in a good bra shop and see the difference they make. ,,£50 is very reasonnable.

As a side note, sharing her measurements is no way of telling the shop measures correctly. Any decent shop fits to the bra. There shouldn't be a measuring tape in sight.

Sounds like a normal spend on a bra to me. It's something you wear all the time, if you work it out as cost per wear, it's a minimal spend.

LashesandLipstick · 06/07/2015 09:51

I often spend at least £30 on a bra, I'd rather have a couple of nice supportive ones than a load of cheap crappy ones that don't fit!

corgiology · 06/07/2015 11:20

Wonderbra has a sale on atm up to 50% off.

I got 6 bras for £60 :)

helenahandbag · 06/07/2015 11:21

My bras are £30 each, I won't spend less (unless it's an expensive one on sale) because you get what you pay for. I've tried cheaper ones from M&S, etc and they just aren't as supportive.

tripletrouble · 06/07/2015 23:27

Thanks all for the comments! I will no longer feel guilty about spending that much!
