to wonder where people get this expectation that they are entitled to drive round in cars, polluting the planet.

How did it become an automatic right to drive round everywhere. Do people do it just because they can afford it? Does anyone avoid it for he sake of the human race, and the planet? I know some people have little choice, but many people who do have a choice, drive anyway.

Do let me know your experience of the oil industry dear

I have a fair amount, but why is it relevant?

Thankfully I also possess basic scientific literacy.

alrayyan · 09/07/2015 15:12

So what? and if you mean global warming then Grin

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 09/07/2015 15:29

But hey ho, you'll have enjoyed your large car

Ah, so because I disagree with you I have a large car? That's interesting.

Do I eat babies and put cats in wheelie bins too? Just because I disagree with you? Hmm

What makes you assume that Tramb?

Anyway - how warm was it when the dinosaurs (you do believe in them right?) were wandering round?

That's right - very. That's why you can find fossils of tropical ferns in the UK.

And then what killed them? Oh, that's right - an Ice Age. That's why you can find fossils of Mammoths in the UK.

What do we still have the slowly melting remnants of hanging around?

That's right too - glaciers, from the Ice Age.

Still with me? I can't type any slower if you're not I'm afraid.

So, we're still at the tail end of the last Ice Age. By the time it finishes the Earth may well be back to "normal" dino-suitable temperatures.

Why on earth would you think the temperature would't continue to change just because you don't like cars? We may change it by a century or two, but as I said - the Planet will be fine & will continue to toddle along doing perfectly well without us, probably rules by Ants in Bowler Hats or somesuch.

And, BTW, my kids will be just fine thanks, as will their children. So please, take the hessian shirt off, have a drink & lighten up for fucks sake. Grin

You're Welcome....

ants in bowler hats Grin

Whao, just whao at this thread. People are really addicted to their cars, aren't they?

JassyRadlett · 09/07/2015 16:28

It was just that you set up an odd 'don't talk to me unless you know about the oil sector' thing. Not entirely clear why it was relevant, or why you raised it if not? Was it just to demonstrate Special Snowflakeness?

For the record, I've got a large car. Grin. And still have a slightly better grasp of climate science and natural vs anthropogenic factors than some recent contributors to this thread. Ferns and mammoths, eh? Oh NOW IT'S ALL CLEAR I'VE BEEN SO BLIND.

alrayyan · 09/07/2015 17:02

You might be the cleverest mum on mumsnet. But some of us actually don't give a shit about something you are clearly passionate about whilst using a Chinese made Internet device charged by electricity.

JassyRadlett · 09/07/2015 17:16

You might be the cleverest mum on mumsnet.

Oh sweetie. I'm so much more than that. But also someone who doesn't use 'mum' as some kind of weird insult. What's that about?

What makes you think I'm 'clearly passionate' about the issue, out of interest? The big car? The defence of driving? Any evidence at all, or just wild stabs in the dark? It's about as good as your posts about science, TBH, so keep it up. I've a free afternoon this afternoon and you're vastly entertaining.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 09/07/2015 17:34

Oh NOW IT'S ALL CLEAR I'VE BEEN SO BLIND.

Ah, but ferns & mammoths (and Ants in Bowler Hats) is as much of a Fuck as I can be arsed to give on the subject.

It's all irrelevant to me!!

Grin
alrayyan · 09/07/2015 19:23

Me too. These earnest Ednas just amuse me. They just keep on giving.

Shinytortoise24 · 09/07/2015 19:55

I've just put my recycling bin out. I feel like a could be Captain Planet!
